Senior Property Lawyer

24 months fixed term contract – Full Time (36 hrs pw)

An excellent opportunity has arisen within the London Borough of Redbridge for an experienced Senior Property Lawyer to join the Council to provide a comprehensive and professional legal service on a fixed term basis.

You will report to the Principal Lawyer – Property and Planning within the Legal Department. You will also work closely with other Council departmental clients and specialist departments.

You will provide the Council with expert advice on the more complex commercial property and regeneration work.

Responsibilities -

  • Provide expertise and knowledge of, and provide advice and guidance and practical assistance on, local government law in all aspects of commercial and residential property law.
  • To be responsible for the conduct of legal work in respect of complex residential property acquisition matters allocated to the Property and Planning Team and the provision of legal advice and support to Departmental managers and officers on such matters.
  • To act as a legal advisor to the client organisations in regeneration, commercial property and other corporate or constitutional and administrative matters to ensure compliance with statutory duties and obligations and to protect the best interests of the client organisations.
  • Preparing, negotiating and advising on all aspects relating to regeneration projects and commercial property work.
  • To deputise for the Principal Lawyer where required.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Hold a Solicitor, Barrister, FILEX or similar qualification
  • Have substantial experience of residential and commercial property transactions, preferably in a local government context, in a relevant discipline.
  • Significant experience of preparing title reports and brief officers in a Local Authority or similar organisation.
  • Excellent knowledge of the law and practice of property and conveyancing transactions.
  • Conduct a case load within your area of expertise without supervision.
