Department Infectious Diseases
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute towards cross functional efforts focussed on applying the ImmTAX® platform or other modalities for the development of novel treatments for chronic infections, including HIV and HBV (Yang et al Mol Ther. 2016 Nov; 24,11; Fergusson et al Hepatology 2020 Nov;72,5) and EBV associated diseases. The team is involved in multiple stages of the drug discovery and development process, from target discovery all the way to clinical.
- Independently or collaboratively plan, design, and execute experimental investigations, enabling the advancement of the Company pipeline, process, or technology capabilities.
- Independently plan, design and execute projects. Typically conduct more than one project at a time with moderate manager guidance
- Execute experiments to address key scientific questions and enable project progression, utilizing range of techniques including cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISpots, ELISAs, DD-PCR, qPCR, and NextGen sequencing.
- Some work will be conducted in a containment level 3 (CL3 facility) and will require handling of human viruses
- Make detailed observations, analyse data, interpret results, and make recommendations
- Proactively expand scientific/technical knowledge in relevant fields including HIV/HBV/EBV related disease biology and drug development through review of scientific literature/ conference updates, peer to peer mentoring, and attendance at seminars/conferences in line with company strategy
- Work effectively in a matrixed team structure, as part of cross functional teams
- Participate and present results at internal/external meetings
- Influence scientific thinking and direction of projects and demonstrate some leadership qualities through project team participation, internal consulting and mentoring
- Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience
- Establish relationships and possible collaborations within and outside of the company
Essential Qualifications:
- PhD in virology, immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, genomics or related discipline and 2-5 years related experience
- Alternatively, a BSc or MSc with significant work experience in relevant scientific areas
- Experience working in Infectious diseases
- Worked in a bench-based laboratory environment and proficient in the following key techniques:
- Culturing primary cells and cell lines
- Flow cytometry, ELISpot and/or ELISA
- molecular techniques including some of the following: PCR, Mutagenesis, qPCR, Droplet Digital PCR, NextGen sequencing, Genomics/Transcriptomics
- Experience working in CL3 facilities and in compliance with Human Tissue Authority requirements
- Contributes towards and brings new ideas/knowledge to scientific team discussions
- Experience presenting at internal or external meetings
- Knowledge/expertise of Immunology/Virology
- Knowledge/expertise of in vitro infection models using viruses
- Supervision/mentoring experience e.g. training junior staff in lab techniques and data interpretation
