Senior Software Engineer, Platform Engineering – Identity
Platform Engineering owns the end-to-end experience of how engineers, investment teams and researchers at Balyasny build, test, ship and run software at scale – from source control and authentication systems that underpin our live trading environments, to the platforms that keep tens of thousands of builds, applications and tasks running reliably across compute providers, and developer acceleration tooling that deeply integrates across engineering workflows.
The primary focus of this role is to design, build and maintain critical authentication and authorization systems that underpin all processes and services across research and live trading. Low latency, high availability, performance, and scalability are important factors of the system design in this space. This role will involve deep partnership and collaboration across InfoSec, Infrastructure and Applied AI teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain bespoke authentication and authorization software and platform solutions leveraged across the live trading stack, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Develop solutions that enable identity and access software for human, non-human, agentic and workload identities.
- Manage and build real-time systems with tens of millions of requests per day.
- Develop tools and platforms that leverage LLMs, code generation and intelligent agents to streamline code delivery, testing and deployment.
- Contribute to technology-wide engineering standards, frameworks and utilities to drive efficiency and standardization of technology solutions across the estate.
- Deliver SDKs, clients, frameworks and documentation to ensure developers across the firm are able to self-serve the platforms and solutions that we deliver.
- Champion SRE and DevOps best practices—including observability, automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code—across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Participate in on-call rotation and incident response, sharing responsibility for production reliability.
To be considered a good fit, you must have:
- 10+ years, hands-on experience architecting and delivering production-ready software
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, or equivalent experience
- Strong software development experience with Go and Python
- Strong understanding of modern authentication and authorization systems (e.g OAuth 2.0, JWT, SpiceDB, OpenFGA)
- Understanding of workload identities, human identities and non-human identities
- Experience working with distributed high throughput systems
- Experience working with containers and Kubernetes
- Experience designing solutions architecture
- Experience working with agentic AI SDKs and tooling
- Detailed communication and documentation skills – ability to represent ideas, requirements, reference architecture and problems in clear, concise, and business-friendly documents
