About The Role
The SHEQ & Assurance Manager will lead Indigo's global Safety, Health, Environment, Assurance and Compliance function, providing strategic leadership, independent assurance and risk oversight across the business. Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Service Partner Management and Commercial teams, you will set the global SHEQ direction, challenge operational risk and ensure effective controls, standards and governance are embedded across our people, service partners, suppliers and operations. You will champion a proactive safety culture and drive accountability for SHEQ performance across the organisation, providing senior leadership with clear insight into risk, performance and opportunities for continual improvement.
What You’ll Do
· SHEQ Leadership & Culture: Develop and implement Indigo's global SHEQ strategy, championing a proactive safety culture and ensuring health, safety and wellbeing are embedded in operational decision making.
· Leadership & Accountability: Provide visible leadership and challenge where standards are compromised, promoting ownership of SHEQ performance across operational and functional leaders rather than SHEQ carrying the responsibility alone.
· Governance & Assurance: Develop and maintain Indigo's SHEQ Assurance Framework, providing independent oversight of operational controls, governance arrangements, risk management and corrective actions.
· Operational Risk: Lead the identification, assessment and mitigation of operational risk, maintaining effective risk registers, governance forums and escalation processes for significant risks and control failures.
· Compliance & Audit: Maintain compliance with relevant legislation, customer requirements and industry standards, leading internal and external audit programmes and managing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification requirements.
· Incident & Improvement Management: Lead investigations into incidents, non-conformances and significant operational events, driving robust root cause analysis, effective corrective actions and sustainable improvements.
· Environmental & Sustainability: Lead Indigo's environmental management programme, ensuring compliance with environmental obligations and supporting delivery of ESG, carbon reduction and wider sustainability objectives.
· Service Partner Assurance: Establish and oversee assurance programmes for service partners, subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring consistent SHEQ standards, competency, accreditation, training and corrective action requirements across all regions.
· Performance & Insight: Develop SHEQ dashboards, leading and lagging indicators and executive reporting, using data and trends to identify emerging risks, measure performance and drive proactive intervention.
· Continuous Improvement: Use audit findings, operational insight, data and industry benchmarking to identify improvement opportunities and strengthen the effectiveness of Indigo's SHEQ systems and controls.
· Team & Capability: Lead, mentor and develop the SHEQ team while building wider organisational capability through training, coaching and awareness programmes.
· Executive Partnership: Act as Indigo's senior SHEQ subject matter expert, providing executive leadership with clear, evidence-based advice on risk, compliance, performance and strategic SHEQ priorities.
What We Are Looking For
· Senior SHEQ Leadership: Proven senior leadership experience within SHEQ, Assurance, Compliance, Health & Safety or Risk Management, ideally within complex, field-based operational environments.
· Strategic SHEQ Experience: Experience developing and implementing SHEQ strategies, management systems and assurance frameworks across multiple operational sites, regions or business units.
· Operational Assurance: Strong experience in operational risk management, audit, assurance, compliance and corrective action, with the ability to identify control weaknesses and drive meaningful improvement.
· Safety & Environmental Expertise: Experience managing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems, alongside a strong understanding of relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
· Service Partner Management: Experience managing SHEQ standards and assurance across suppliers, subcontractors or service partners, ideally within a complex outsourced or partner-led operating model.
· Influential Leadership: Able to challenge constructively, influence senior stakeholders and build genuine ownership of SHEQ performance across an organisation.
· Data & Risk: Confident using performance data, trends and risk information to identify emerging issues, inform decision making and communicate clearly with executive leadership.
· Qualifications: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 Occupational Health & Safety qualification is essential. Professional membership of a recognised body such as IOSH, IEMA or equivalent and a relevant Lead Auditor qualification are required. A degree or equivalent relevant experience.
· Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence.
· Desirable: CMIOSH, IEMA Practitioner, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, Project Management or ESG/Sustainability qualifications.
