Site Reliability Engineer – AWS / CDK / TypeScript
Remote (UK) – Occasional travel to Leeds
£40,000 – £50,000 + Benefits
VIQU is working with a major UK organisation undergoing a significant cloud transformation following a recent merger. They are strengthening their permanent engineering capability and building out a modern platform and SRE function. This is a hands-on role focused on improving reliability, scalability and automation across their AWS estate, working closely with engineering and architecture teams to enhance how systems are built, deployed and operated.
Key Responsibilities of the Site Reliability Engineer:
- Improve reliability, scalability and operational maturity across AWS environments
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK (TypeScript preferred, Python considered)
- Develop automation across infrastructure, deployments and operational processes
- Support and improve CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI or similar)
- Enhance observability across distributed systems (Prometheus, Grafana, AppDynamics, OpenSearch)
- Support incident response, RCA and long-term reliability improvements
- Embed best practice across cloud security, performance and SRE ways of working
Key Requirements of the Site Reliability Engineer:
- Experience in SRE, Platform Engineering or DevOps roles (5+ years preferred)
- Strong hands-on AWS experience in production environments
- Experience with AWS CDK and Infrastructure as Code
- Strong TypeScript experience (Python also considered)
- CI/CD experience (Jenkins, GitLab CI or similar)
- Container experience (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS or ECS)
- Strong observability experience (Prometheus, Grafana, AppDynamics or OpenSearch)
- Understanding of cloud security (WAF, patching, vulnerability management, AWS Shield)
- Scripting or development experience in TypeScript, Python or Java
- Exposure to Kafka, Kinesis or RabbitMQ beneficial
- AWS certification (Associate+) desirable but not essential
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
