Solution Delivery Manager

Manchester Area, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 1 week ago

Libra Europe is a consulting and technology business that helps organisations improve performance through operational change and bespoke technology solutions. We are growing our technology capability and need someone to own the delivery of our technical projects, end to end. This is not a developer role. It is a delivery leadership role for someone who understands how software gets built and can make sure it gets built well, on time, within scope, and without eroding margin.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Solution Delivery Manager is responsible for the successful execution of all live technology projects across the Libra portfolio. You will be the bridge between what has been sold and what gets delivered. You will own the governance, the client relationship during delivery, the scope, and the commercial health of every technical engagement. You will work alongside our developers and consultants, ensuring the technical team can focus on building whilst you ensure the project stays on track.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Delivery Ownership: Own the end-to-end delivery of multiple concurrent technology projects, from handover out of sales/discovery through build, testing, go-live, and hypercare. You are accountable for on-time, on-budget, high-adoption delivery.
  • Scope and Change Control: Act as the guardian of agreed scope. Implement and enforce a formal change control process so that client requests outside the original brief are properly assessed for impact on time, cost, and resources before any work is accepted. Where a change is material or you do not believe the revised plan is deliverable, escalate to the Operations Director to re-scope or renegotiate before work proceeds. This is a critical gap today and a core part of why this role exists.
  • Handover Gate: Own the acceptance gate between discovery/design and build. Review the Functional Design Document (FDD) and Technical Design Document (TDD) before build commences. If the plan is not deliverable, escalate before work starts.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients throughout delivery. This role is as much about people as it is about process. You need to be comfortable having difficult conversations, managing expectations when things change, and earning the confidence of senior stakeholders. The governance rhythm matters, but so does the ability to pick up the phone and resolve a concern before it becomes an escalation.
  • Client Governance: Run the structured delivery rhythm with clients: weekly project reviews (this week/next week format), monthly steering committees with senior stakeholders, and RAID log management. Ensure the client always knows where their project stands and that decisions are documented.
  • Commercial Protection: Monitor project margin throughout delivery. Track spend against plan, flag overruns early, and ensure change requests are commercially assessed before approval. Provide regular commercial reporting to the Operations Director so there is clear visibility of margin health across the project portfolio. Projects must remain viable commercial engines.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and support the delivery team across concurrent projects. Manage workload and capacity so that no one is quietly drowning whilst another project waits. Challenge technical decisions where they affect delivery timelines, cost, or client outcomes. Support the professional development of the team and create an environment where people can do their best work. Work with the Operations Director and HR Manager on resourcing decisions, capacity conflicts across projects, and any escalations around team workload.
  • Quality and Testing: Ensure structured testing is in place on every project: internal testing (ideally peer-reviewed by a developer not on the build), system integration testing with the client, and formal user acceptance testing with sign-off before go-live.
  • Go-Live and Hypercare: Manage the transition from build to live operation, including readiness gates, defect severity triage during hypercare, and formal project close-out with written client sign-off.
  • Process Standardisation: Drive consistency across all technology projects. Implement standardised reporting, project charters, RACI matrices, communication plans, and sprint planning. Not every project currently operates to the same standard; your job is to change that.
  • First-Line Technical Support: Provide initial triage and support for live solutions where needed, escalating to the development team for issues beyond first-line resolution. You are not expected to fix code, but you should be able to diagnose whether an issue is a bug, a data problem, or a user error.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong interpersonal skills. This role is about dealing with people as much as technology. You need to build trust with clients, manage expectations, have difficult conversations constructively, and support and motivate a delivery team. If you are more comfortable with spreadsheets than with people, this is not the right fit.
  • Proven experience managing the delivery of software or technology projects in a consulting or agency environment, not just internal IT.
  • Strong understanding of how web applications are built: you do not need to write code, but you need to understand development principles, sprint-based delivery, and what good technical documentation looks like. Critically, you must be able to challenge technical decisions where they affect delivery, cost, or client outcomes.
  • Experience with formal change control processes and scope management. You have seen what happens when scope creeps unchecked and you know how to prevent it.
  • Confident running client-facing governance: weekly reviews, steering committees, and stakeholder management up to senior/executive level. Equally comfortable building rapport over a coffee as presenting a risk register to a board.
  • Commercial awareness: you understand project margin, cost tracking, and the relationship between scope changes and profitability.
  • People leadership experience: managing workload across concurrent projects, supporting team wellbeing, and investing in the development of the people around you.
  • Experience with project management artefacts: project charters, RACI matrices, RAID logs, sprint plans, communication plans, and stakeholder maps.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects without letting quality or governance slip on any of them.
  • Structured approach to testing and quality assurance, with experience of UAT processes and formal sign-off gates.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Familiarity with modern web technologies (React.js, Next.js, Node.js) and cloud-hosted applications. You do not need to be a developer, but understanding the stack helps you support the team and triage issues.
  • Comfort with AI-assisted development tools and ways of working. Our team uses AI coding tools (such as Claude Code) to accelerate delivery, and we build wireframe proof of concepts as part of our discovery and design process. You should be familiar with how these tools fit into a modern development workflow.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) as some of our solutions use low-code alongside custom development.
  • Understanding of ERP systems and system integration concepts, as our solutions frequently integrate with existing client platforms.
  • Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, construction, or facilities management sectors.
  • Formal project management qualification (PRINCE2, PMP, or Agile certification), though practical experience matters more than certification.
  • Experience building or refining delivery processes from scratch, rather than just operating within an existing framework.

THE TEAM

Our technology team currently comprises of developers and consultants who work directly with clients to build bespoke solutions. Developers build web applications using React.js, Next.js, and the Microsoft Power Platform, leveraging AI tools to accelerate delivery. Consultants handle client engagement, data work, change management, and the weekly delivery rhythm. On larger projects, a fractional project manager supports the governance. This role brings structure and accountability across all of these moving parts, ensuring that what we sell is what we deliver, and that we deliver it profitably.
