The post holder will be the lead for safeguarding in the Islington School Nursing team; working independently to manage a designated caseload of children and young people attending the Alternative Provisions (AP) in Islington and the Elected Home Educated (EHE) caseload.

The post holder will be expected to complete initial health assessments for all children and young people registered with the respective services; deliver one-one and/or group sessions on a range of health promotion topics, particularly relating to lifestyle choices; deliver the core Healthy Child Programme (0-19),in line with mainstream school nursing.

The post holder will carry individual cases of children needing direct support and monitoring including safeguarding concerns. The post holder will work closely with children, young people, parents/carers and staff within the AP/EHE teams in planning interventions and supporting referral on to other agencies where necessary.

  • To be the named school nurse for the Alterative Provisions in Islington and Elective Home Educated Caseload.
  • To work in collaboration with key staff and partners working within the Islington APS and EHE teams.
  • To provide initial health assessments to all young people entering the services with an annual review as appropriate.
  • To act as the lead professional ensuring entry into early intervention, or referral onto specialist services such as sexual health, substance misuse, speech and language therapy, smoking cessation and CAMHS.
  • To take the lead for Safeguarding within the SN team, being responsible for maintaining up to date knowledge in this field and passing information to the whole service and supporting the team with safeguarding caseload management.
  • In this clinical area to develop, implement and maintain standards and protocols, complete audits and complete the annual service report.
