An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed Specialist Grade Community Paediatrician to join the Specialist Child Health Service in Milton Keynes, part of Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL).

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a motivated clinician who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with developmental, neurodisability, safeguarding, and complex health needs. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The post holder will contribute to the assessment, diagnosis, and management of children and young people presenting with a wide range of developmental and community paediatric conditions. The role provides opportunities to work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, education services, social care teams, and primary care partners.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing specialist community paediatric assessments and follow-up care.
  • Contributing to neurodevelopmental and neurodisability pathways including as part of the new CNWL SHINE pathway.
  • Providing assessment for Children Looked After
  • Supporting safeguarding and child protection work as required.
  • Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated care.
  • Participating in service development, clinical governance, quality improvement, and teaching activities.
  • Supporting the delivery of patient-centred, evidence-based care in line with national and local standards.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council with a license to practice

Desirable criteria

  • MRCP, MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
  • Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD, MBA, PhD or other higher degree
  • DCH, DCCH, or other relevant diplomas

Training

Essential criteria

  • 4 years postgraduate training or equivalent, including 2 years in Paediatrics (or demonstrate equivalent experience and competences)

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in Community Paediatrics
  • Experience / Training in developmental assessments
  • Experience in other areas related to child health, such as general practice, mental health, public Health, Paediatric Neurology / Neurodisability

Other Professional Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working as part of and leading a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in Child Protection Medical Examinations
  • Good understanding of health inequalities and the impact of social determinants on children, young people and families
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

Desirable criteria

  • Specialist experience in one or more particular areas of Community Child Health practice to take a lead role in that area
  • Up to date with Level 3+ Safeguarding and Child Protection competences
  • Experience in autism assessment and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Ability to use standardized assessment tools such as Griffith, Bayley, ADI - R, ADOS…etc.
  • Experience in looked after children assessment and management

Leadership & Management

Essential criteria

  • Capable of working independently and making sound clinical decisions and asking for help as appropriate
  • asking for help as appropriate. Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams within community child health settings and interagency systems i.e. social care and education
  • Good understanding of the structure and processes of the NHS with experience of working in the NHS
  • Participation in and demonstration of understanding of clinical governance, risk management, service planning and quality improvement
  • Ability to work well with colleagues within and across departments and hospitals and share the load and introduce change collaboratively

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in leadership.
  • Completion of a management or leadership course
  • Ability to mentor or coach junior staff
  • Ability to develop guidelines for departmental clinical use, and lead in service development

Academic /Training

Essential criteria

  • Demonstration of enthusiasm and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate paediatric teaching
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit/QI project, understanding the role of these in improving the medical practice

  • Demonstration of participation in clinical audit and quality improvement
  • Demonstration of participation in departmental teaching

Desirable criteria

  • Formal training in teaching / research / QI
  • Record of publications in peer reviewed journals
