ANAESTHESIA AT FRIMLEY PARK HOSPITAL
The ACSA-accredited Anaesthetic department has 56 Consultant Anaesthetists, 7 Specialty Doctors and 32 Doctors in training, providing anaesthetic duties in 18 theatres plus areas including Obstetrics, interventional Radiology, Endoscopy and Cardiac catheterisation suites.
The department also provides a cardiopulmonary exercise testing service and a high-risk pre-operative clinic.
Regional anaesthesia is actively encouraged and taught. The department is an ESRA-approved training centre with usually up to 3 regional Anaesthesia Fellows at any one time. A block room service has been developed for safe and efficient regional anaesthesia. Frimley Park is also a high-volume regional vascular centre with 19 vascular anaesthetists.

DIMENSIONS OF JOB
10.75 Programmed Activities (PAs) Per Week Comprising
- 8.5 PAs dedicated to anaesthetic sessions during the week
- 0.75 PAs covering 7 Saturday trauma lists during the year and one bank holiday
- 1.5 PAs allocated to Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for CPD

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- Primary FRCA or equivalent
- Previous UK based experience running solo lists in normal working hours AND out of hours.
- MRCP or similar qualification
- Postgraduate qualification in perioperative medicine
- Qualification in regional anaesthesia
Essential criteria
- Able to evaluate own clinical practice
- Able to demonstrate innovative thinking
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to organise and develop service provision
- Understanding of NHS hospital structures; willing to play a role in the Department and Hospital
- Good IT skills
- Experience in Management
Essential criteria
- Wide grounding in all aspects of anaesthesia
- Provider status in ATLS, ALS and PALS (or equivalent)
- Willingness to teach undergraduates and postgraduates, particularly in weekly protected trainee teaching sessions
- Participation in audit activity
- Understanding of Clinical Governance principles and evidence-based practice
- Faculty in teaching courses
- Postgraduate qualification in teaching
- Relevant research experience
