Strategic Sales Director — Environmental / Nature-Based Markets
Strategic Sales Director — Environmental / Nature-Based Markets | England (Home-based, regular London travel)
The business
A growing, investor-backed business in the environmental markets space, selling directly to developers and corporates across the built environment.
This role is not a fit for generalist B2B sales candidates. We're looking for someone who has, at some point in their career, worked closely with the development, planning, or land world — either as an advisor, a buyer, or selling into it. This doesn't need to be your current role, but it does need to be genuine, demonstrable experience. If you don't have this background anywhere in your career history, please don't apply — we won't be able to progress you.
You'll have had exposure to one or more of the following, at some point in your career:
- Strategic land / planning consultancy — land agent, strategic land director, or planning consultant with genuine commercial/BD ownership (not technical delivery)
- Developer-side — land, planning, or partnerships role at a housebuilder or developer, with direct exposure to compliance or land acquisition decisions
- PropTech / LandTech / built-environment sales — selling software, data, or advisory services directly to developers, planning teams, or housebuilders
- Adjacent commercial roles — BD or commercial ownership at an infrastructure, energy, or utilities business, or a Tier 1 contractor, working on the development pipeline
- Ecology / environmental consultancy — but only if you've since moved into a genuine commercial or BD role with real revenue ownership, not technical delivery
And, in your current or most recent role, you'll be able to demonstrate:
- Named revenue targets, deal sizes, and cycle lengths — this is a sales-first hire, not an account management one
- A track record of building relationships over long, complex sales cycles with multiple stakeholders
- Some line management or budget responsibility, even at small scale (2–3 people is the benchmark — this isn't a large-team leadership hire)
- A career that's moved upward — promotions or growing responsibility, not a string of short senior stints
- A direct, curious communication style
The role
A player-manager position — from day one you'll own a portfolio of accounts and run full sales cycles. As you establish yourself, there's a clear route into informally leading a small team within your sector.
Package
Competitive base with uncapped, genuinely strong commission potential.
Process
Run confidentially by Hanson Search. Full company details shared at first conversation — please only apply if your background matches the criteria above, as we're not able to consider generalist sales applications for this search.
