SuccessFactors Technical Engineer (Talent & Performance)
Role Title: SuccessFactors Technical Engineer (Talent & Performance)
Division: People Operations & Projects
Location: Liverpool, Glasgow, London
Contract: FTC
Working pattern: Hybrid
About the Role
The SuccessFactors Technical Engineer is a hands-on configuration and technical delivery role responsible for building, testing, documenting and deploying changes with the Group’s SAP SuccessFactors product suite.
Working from requirements, priorities and solution direction provided by the People Systems Lead, the role translates agreed requirements into high-quality system configuration, validates changes through playbacks and testing, and supports controlled deployment as part of the ongoing optimisation of the People technology landscape.
Subject matter expert for SAP SuccessFactors talent modules — including Continuous Performance Management (CPM), Performance Forms, Calibration, 9-Box Grid, Succession Planning, Growth Portfolio, and Opportunity Marketplace.
Support configuring comprehensive talent solutions that link modules together into a cohesive talent ecosystem, ensuring data flows seamlessly between performance, calibration, succession, and development. You will own your body of work from end to end: supporting design → configure → UAT → playback.
What you’ll be responsible for
1. Requirements Translation & Configuration Design
• Receive requirements, priorities and design direction from the People Systems Lead and translate them into practical configuration changes.
• Assess configuration options, dependencies and constraints across SuccessFactors modules, highlighting risks, assumptions and impacts for review.
• Contribute to solution thinking by providing technical input, feasibility insight and configuration recommendations, while operating within the agreed People Systems roadmap and governance framework.
2. Technical Delivery
• Undertake hands-on configuration, business rule changes, permissions updates, workflow amendments, field changes, template updates and related technical build activity across SuccessFactors modules.
• Prepare and deliver configuration playbacks to the People Systems Lead and relevant SMEs, clearly explaining what has been built, how it works and any areas requiring decision or validation.
• Support unit testing, system testing and user acceptance testing by preparing test scenarios, resolving defects and ensuring configuration behaves as expected.
• Package, document and deploy approved changes in line with change control, release management and environment management processes.
3. Documentation, Support & Continuous Improvement
• Maintain clear technical documentation, including configuration notes, build specifications, test evidence, deployment notes and support handover materials.
• Investigate system issues, troubleshoot defects and provide technical analysis to support incident resolution, enhancements and continuous improvement activity.
• Work collaboratively with the People Systems Lead, internal SMEs, IT teams and external AMS partners where required to progress technical delivery and maintain system stability.
About you
• Deep, hands-on knowledge of SAP SuccessFactors Talent modules: Performance Forms, Continuous Performance Management (CPM), Calibration, 9-Box Grid, Succession Planning, Growth Portfolio, and Opportunity Marketplace.
• Ability to design comprehensive talent solutions that go beyond basic templates — linking modules together into a cohesive talent ecosystem where performance, calibration, succession, and development reinforce each other.
• Strong understanding of performance form configuration — route maps, custom sections, rating scales, writing assistants, legal scan, 360 reviews, and form template management.
• Strong understanding of how talent modules integrate with Employee Central and with each other — ensuring data consistency and a connected employee experience.
Experience with Job Profile Builder, Talent Intelligence Hub, or Skills Ontology.
• Familiarity with Employee Central configuration — understanding of data models, MDF, and how EC underpins the talent modules.
• Experience with integration (CPI/APIs) for talent data flows between SuccessFactors and third-party systems.
• Understanding of UK and Republic of Ireland HR and talent management practices.
• Experience working within an ITIL or similar service management framework.
• Exposure to SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform) and extension capabilities.
• Strong understanding of environment management and transport principles — experience moving configuration from Dev/Preview through to Production.
• Proven ability to design and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including writing test scripts, managing defects, and driving resolution across the full talent cycle.
• Excellent stakeholder communication — able to explain technical talent solutions to non-technical audiences through clear playbacks, demos, and documentation.
• Governance and compliance mindset — you understand why change management, approvals, and audit trails matter, and you operate accordingly.
• Ownership of a body of work end-to-end: supporting design → configure → test → deploy → playback.
