What you will be doing:
Galliford Try operates across a number of Lots on the Department for Education (DfE) Construction Framework (CF25). The Construction Framework supports the school building programmes and is intended to meet a variety of needs supporting the delivery of schools, academies, free schools and sixth form colleges. Projects can be large new build, refurbishment or remodelling and include early contractor involvement, design and build or traditional projects.
In response to the DfE’s CF25 Employer’s Requirements, Technical Manual, Pattern Book and Annexes, Galliford Try has developed standard school designs, for Primary and Secondary Schools.
The Technical Manager role will lead and implement Galliford Try’s standard school designs across the business. The Technical Manager will act as the custodian of the standard designs, owning its adoption, governing deviations, supporting Business Units on tenders and ensuring the standard designs deliver commercial, programme, quality and carbon benefits across CF25.

- Oversee the implementation, development and updates of the standard design
- Ensure the standard designs are used on every DfE project, supporting project delivery teams at key gateways
- Train and inform our delivery teams on the standard designs
- Act as a single point of contact for consultants
- Provide consistent oversight for every project from inception through to the end of the defects liability period
- Own and maintain our integrated, design-led platform of fully BIM-integrated library of components, framework documents and guidance.

Competency Requirements
- Worked at a senior level within a UK construction organisation
- Communicates clearly with confidence at all levels
- Ability to influence behaviour and build a strong rapport within the business, building effective collaborative relationships, internally and externally
- Ability to lead and manage individuals and teams, both direct and indirectly
- Ability to work remotely and be self-managing while maintaining team spirit
- Ability to apply strategic thinking
- Well-developed oral and presentation/communication skills
- Enthusiastic, conscientious with good attention to detail
- Strong commercial awareness
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK
- Experience managing Designers and other Consultants
- Able to demonstrate alignment and work in line with the Galliford Try values - Excellence, Passion, Integrity and Collaboration.
- Construction/Design related HNC/HND/Degree
- Member of Professional Body CIOB/RIBA/RICS (desirable)
- BIM Expertise
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Extensive design experience working for a contractor, subcontractor, specialist supplier or consultant.
- Proven track record of managing teams of consultants to deliver designs on time and within budget.
- Exposure to education sector (desirable)
- Experience of pre-construction process
- Experience of design and build projects within education sector (desirable)
