Terrain Artist

City Of Bristol, England, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 5 hours ago

Lo-Fi Games is an internationally renowned, fully independent games studio with roots and headquarters aptly set in the unconventional city of Bristol, UK.

We’re known for Kenshi, the hit Sandbox RPG on Steam, and we’re now deep into the long-cycle development of its sequel in Unreal Engine 5.

We are seeking a mid to senior-level terrain artist to help us create the diverse world of Kenshi, where each biome has its own unique look and purpose, contributing to both storytelling and game design. The world is alien, yet realistic and believable, with each area presenting different outcomes and challenges for players.

We’re a small studio, but our team is spread all around the world. We’re open to applications from anywhere, and this role can be based in person, hybrid or fully remote, depending on what works best for you.

Responsibilities

  • Creating large-scale terrain using both Unreal Engine 5 and in-house tools
  • Contributing both artistically and technically during the concept process to guide concept artists to achieve the best result with the least amount of assets as possible, based on each biome budget
  • Capable of filling the gaps missing from the concepts and adding details in the same art direction
  • Sculpting, modelling and texturing terrain and assets for an open world game
  • Working directly with the lead and tech artist to make sure assets are performant based on technical limitations
  • Communicating and working with the Level Design Lead when needed
  • Working directly with the Lead to ensure the final textured terrain and assets are visually compatible with the rest of the game assets in terms of art directions and visibility

Requirements

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating the world creation including foliage, rock and similar assets
  • Experience working with game engines
  • Experience working in open world games with realistic art style
  • Proficiency in modelling and texturing software such as Gaia, SpeedTree, Zbrush, and Substance
  • Great communication skills
  • Excellent time management
  • Being able to adapt to the existing workflow and suggest new ideas if needed
  • Capable of giving reliable estimates for completion of the tasks

Desirable

  • Work experience with Unreal Engine
  • Lighting experience

Benefits

  • Super flexible working - our core hours are between 12pm and 4pm (GMT)
  • 28 days holiday plus bank holidays (pro-rata)
  • Relaxed environment with a strict company policy of no crunch
  • Private WPA healthcare (UK PAYE Only)
  • Excellent team welfare benefits and support
  • Mental health support with Spill, with two ‘no questions’ extra days off a year if you need it
