About the Role

Akoni Technologies is recruiting an experienced UI/UX Designer on behalf of our client to support the enhancement and modernisation of a suite of operational software applications.

This is an excellent opportunity for a designer who enjoys solving complex user experience challenges within enterprise and technical environments. You will work closely with product owners, software developers, business stakeholders, and end users to simplify workflows, improve usability, and create intuitive digital experiences that increase productivity and user satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will have experience transforming engineering-led or legacy applications into modern, user-centred solutions while balancing user needs with technical constraints.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct user research to understand user needs, behaviours, and pain points.
  • Analyse existing operational software and identify opportunities to improve usability.
  • Simplify complex workflows and business processes into intuitive user experiences.
  • Create user journeys, personas, information architecture, and interaction flows.
  • Produce high-quality wireframes, mock-ups, interactive prototypes, and UI designs.
  • Develop and maintain reusable design systems and component libraries.
  • Collaborate closely with software developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Work with Product Managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into user-centred solutions.
  • Facilitate design workshops and usability testing sessions.
  • Iterate designs based on user feedback and analytics.
  • Ensure consistency across multiple products and platforms.
  • Deliver high-quality outputs within agreed project timelines.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven commercial experience as a UI/UX Designer.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating enterprise or operational software applications.
  • Experience conducting UX research and usability testing.
  • Expertise in workflow mapping and process simplification.
  • Strong understanding of interaction design and information architecture.
  • Experience modernising legacy or engineering-focused applications.
  • Excellent wireframing and prototyping skills.
  • Experience creating scalable design systems.
  • Strong visual design skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Miro, FigJam, and InVision (desirable).
  • Good understanding of responsive design principles, WCAG accessibility standards, user journey mapping, wireframing, interactive prototyping, and design systems.
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and how designs are implemented by development teams is desirable.



Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on operational, engineering, industrial, or technical software applications.
  • Knowledge of enterprise software design principles.
  • Experience working alongside software development teams throughout the SDLC.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or Kanban delivery methodologies.
  • Experience improving internal business applications rather than purely customer-facing websites.
