An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated clinician to lead our established Virtual Ward service as Clinical Manager. The Milton Keynes Virtual Ward has been successfully operating for over three years and currently has 40 beds, with a primary focus on frailty with limited respiratory and cardiology capacity. pathways.
This is an exciting time to join the service as we continue to develop and innovate. A number of developments are planned, including closer collaboration with care homes, integration of pathways with Urgent Community Response services including the development of head injury and long-lie pathways, implementation of elastomeric therapy, and embedding Point of Care Testing into routine patient management.
The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of the service while ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job
To support and guide the operational management of staff working within the Virtual Ward Team on a day to day basis to ensure the service can meet its commissioned targets.
We can offer regular 1:1 formal and informal supervision, a comprehensive induction and be able to participate in self directed learning, completion of competencies, training opportunities, collaborative working across Milton Keynes Community Health Services and QI project work.
You will have access to a laptop, mobile phone, uniform and have your mileage expenses paid for.

Main duties of the job
To support and guide the operational management of staff working within the Virtual Ward Team on a day to day basis to ensure the service can meet its commissioned targets.
- To provide visible clinical, professional and management leadership to all members of the team.
- To work in conjunction with MKC, MKUH and other key stakeholders to ensure an integrated multi- Agency approach to virtual ward provision.
- To lead in the recruitment and selection of staff within the virtual ward team.
- To ensure safe staffing levels for the team and manage recruitment and retention to support this.
- To work with the MKUH Inpatient services to lead and develop integrated and joint working along the pathways.
- Monitor compliance with KPIs and where necessary develop robust action plans to address non- compliance.
- To assess compliance with CQC standards and where necessary develop robust action plans to bring the service in line to achieve a minimum rating of Good.
- To appropriately represent CNWL and Virtual Ward services internally and externally.

- Develop and contribute to the development of care pathways in conjunction with MKUH, Primary Care and other stakeholders and providers.
- To provide mentoring to the team in areas of clinical practice and encourage and support development of skills.
- To support the team in the implementation of treatment plans to ensure that patients always receive a high quality of care.
- To be actively involved in the design and implementation of research and/ or clinical audits/ trials to evaluate that aspect of the service and identify areas for development, maintenance and improvement.
- To monitor and report on KPIs for the different aspects of the service to ensure contracted standards are maintained.
- To always maintain safe levels of staffing. To manage recruitment and retention to support this.
- To monitor sickness and annual leave for the team via the organisational sickness absence management policy.
- To monitor competencies, identify training needs and ensure all staff have the skills and training expected for their role.
- To be an authorised budget signatory for the teams.
- To undertake appraisals for the team in line with the organisation policy and assist them in setting and achieving realistic objectives and develop personal training plans.
- To be responsible for organising staff meetings and sessions for clinical supervision. Responsible for attending senior management meetings.
- To ensure that all staff are trained in the use of equipment and to maintain accurate records.
- To ensure that the service is maintained to the highest standards, equipment is kept in good working order and that faults are promptly acted upon or reported.

Qualifications/Experience
Essential criteria
- Registered Health Professional with relevant post registration experience
- Educated to Master’s level/ equivalent of / willingness to work towards
- Substantial Leadership and management experience within a healthcare service.
- Experience of working within community nursing services and/or intermediate care services
- 1st level management training preferable or evidence of work towards
- Demonstrable experience of managing innovative service development and change management processes
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates knowledge of current NHS agenda, including CQC standards and understands how this affects services.
- Good knowledge base concerning the key national agenda regarding virtual wards
- Demonstrates current clinical knowledge regarding evidence base and best practice across profession.

- Understanding of confidentiality in the workplace.
