JOB DESCRIPTION
Assistant Project Manager
Key ResponsibilitiesProgramme & Scheduling Support
• Assist in the creation, maintenance, and updating of detailed construction programmes using Microsoft Project.
• Track construction milestones and produce programme progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify schedule variances and flag risks or delays to the lead Project Manager.
• Support the baseline programme review process and contribute to look-ahead planning sessions.
• Produce Gantt charts, critical path analyses, and resource loading summaries as required.
Project Administration & Reporting
• Maintain accurate project trackers, action logs, risk registers, and decision logs.
• Compile weekly and monthly project progress reports, drawing on inputs from site teams, engineers, and contractors.
• Prepare meeting agendas, take minutes, and distribute action items in a timely manner.
• Support the collation of monthly cost reports and assist with invoice tracking and purchase order management.
Document Control
• Manage the project document control system, ensuring all drawings, specifications, and correspondence are filed, distributed, and tracked.
• Coordinate the review and approval of contractor submittals, RFIs, and method statements.
• Maintain the handover documentation register and support the assembly of O&M manuals.
Site Support
• Attend site visits to support the Project Manager and develop an understanding of construction activities and sequencing.
• Assist with the coordination of site meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
• Support the collation of site progress photos, daily diaries, and site records.
Essential Requirements
• Degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience of up to 2 years in a project support role).
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Project — you must be comfortable building and updating programmes independently.
• Proficient in the wider Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
• Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive, self-motivated, and willing to learn in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Full UK driving licence (or working towards one).
Desirable Requirements
• Exposure to renewable energy, construction, or infrastructure projects through placement, internship, or early career experience.
• Familiarity with document management platforms such as Aconex, Procore, or SharePoint.
• Basic understanding of NEC contracts or construction contract administration.
• CSCS card (Trainee or Graduate).
• Interest in pursuing APM PMQ or equivalent project management qualification.
