Band 5 Acute Dietitian
London, England, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 1 week ago
We have a band 5 acute dietitian position at the Whittington Hospital, perfect for a newly qualified dietitian or one with some experience.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team to support our adult inpatients. The main area of work will be in the care of the elderly wards where we have a number of innovations to support care.
We are looking for someone who has a passion for creating nutritional plans that recognise individual patient need and at the same time can be achieved in the hospital setting.
You will need to have a strong interest in working within the MDT, keen to provide training to staff to support nutritional screening and be a "people person" - our patients and their families require excellent communication skills to ensure nutritional plans are appropriate and understood.
The post also covers a general outpatient clinic weekly and a couple of group education patient talks.
The main duty of the job is to provide nutritional and dietetic advice, education and support to patients and their families and to the other Health Care Professionals working throughout Whittington Hospital.
This will include full assessment, dietary therapy and monitoring for an allocated caseload of adult inpatients, requiring oral and enteral nutritional plans. You will be expected to support the wider nutritional care at ward level to ensure adequate provision for all patients through innovations such as the Supported Mealtime Policy, Inpatient Dining Group activities and audit and service improvement projects.
You will also provide nutritional assessment and dietary recommendations for patients attending the general dietetic outpatient clinic, cardiac rehabilitation group, antenatal obesity clinic and healthy eating education talks for maternity patients.
Regular teaching and training for a wide variety of staff groups including doctors, nurses and other allied health professional is also part of the role.
We are a small, friendly and supportive team. You will work specifically as part of our Care of Older People team but there will also be opportunities to cover across the hospital, once you are established. We have a good reputation for supporting individuals to develop their clinical skills and promote internally when we can. Opportunities to shadow and undertake CPD are always available.
We are currently supporting our Trust with very practical solutions to improving nutritional care, such as carrying out comprehensive screening training, supporting food safety initiatives and leading on excellent mealtime care. We work closely with our catering colleagues to improve nutritional provision for all patients. We are running a service that aims to be seen promoting nutritional care - we do not work remotely, but enjoy interactions with both our patients and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
