How You'll Make a Difference

As a Best Start Family Hub worker, you will play a key role in helping children and families get the best possible start in life. Working across Family Hubs, Children’s Centres, family homes and community settings, you will provide practical support, build confidence and connect families to the services and opportunities they need to thrive.

Focusing primarily on babies and children aged 0-5, while supporting families with children and young people aged 0-19, or 25 with SEND, you will deliver interventional support, facilitate evidence-based activities and provide information, advice and signposting. Through your work, you will help families access the right support at the right time, improving outcomes and strengthening connections within their local community.

What You Will Be Doing

As part of the Best Start Family Hub network, you will deliver universal and targeted services to children and families. Through positive relationship-based engagement, you will provide early help and practical support, helping families access the information, services and opportunities they need to improve outcomes and build resilience.

Working under the guidance of a Best Start Senior Family Hub Worker, you will support families with a variety of issues including parenting, health and wellbeing, housing, financial pressures and safeguarding concerns. While this is not a case-holding role, you will play a vital part in identifying needs early, removing barriers to support and ensuring families are connected with the most appropriate services.

• You will deliver hub-based, outreach, group and one-to-one support, including evidence-based parenting programmes and home learning activities.
• It will be your responsibility to provide information, advice and signposting on a range of issues, including health and wellbeing, welfare benefits, debt, food and fuel poverty, housing and wider family support services.
• Using your strong communication and relationship-building skills, you will help families engage with local services and community opportunities, while developing effective partnerships and referral pathways.
• Contributing to Early Help and Family Help Plans where appropriate, you will recognise safeguarding concerns and escalate them promptly in line with procedures.
• A key aspect of your role will be maintaining accurate records, monitoring progress and promoting Family Hub services across local communities, schools, health settings and partner organisations.
  
  

What We Need From You

• It is essential that you hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject or be working towards an appropriate qualification related to supporting children, young people and families.
• We are looking for someone who has experience of working directly with children, young people or families who require additional support, including delivering family-focused interventions or parenting support.
• You will bring a compassionate, strengths-based approach, using sound judgement, empathy and practical problem-solving skills to help families navigate services with confidence.
• As a confident communicator, you will have the ability to build positive relationships with families, colleagues and partner organisations.
• A good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities is essential, including the ability to identify concerns, undertake basic risk assessments and take appropriate action when required.
• You must have experience of maintaining accurate records, producing clear written reports and using a range of IT systems, with the ability to quickly learn new software packages.
  
  

What You Need To Know

• This is a limited term position with a planned duration to 2nd July 2027.
• This is a part time position for 18.5 hours.
• An enhanced DBS check is required due to the nature of the work with children and families.
• Travel throughout the authority and surrounding area is expected, so a full driving licence with access to a vehicle, or an alternative suitable means of travel is needed.
• The role includes work in Family Hubs, Children’s Centres, community venues and family homes, with occasional evenings or weekends according to service need.
