Building Surveying Technician (M+E) required to undertake comprehensive surveys of Council operational property assets. The postholder will have a key role in the planning and implementation of a programme of surveys which is aimed at establishing core information on the condition of all operational properties.

These properties will predominantly be schools, however, may also include care homes, offices, libraries, public halls and leisure facilities if required. Candidates should have a Mechanical (Building Services) or Electrical background and have the ability to provide clear and concise reports in line with the Scottish Governments Core Facts reporting mechanism. Experience of carrying out surveys and compiling reports would be beneficial.

Although part of a wider team, the successful candidate would be required work alone planning workloads and arranging visits as appropriate.

With a Salary Range of £34,914.86 to £43,437.09 (FC7) on a Permanent, Full Time basis, 36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. Located within the Property Maintenance Team operating from Bankhead Central, Glenrothes, working Fife Wide, candidates should have the ability to travel within Fife.

The Person

Educated to SCQF level 7, which includes HNC or equivalent in an Electrical, Mechanical (Building Services) or related discipline is essential as is a commitment to a continuous personal development in the role. An apprenticeship in a relevant discipline with a minimum of two years post apprenticeship experience would be advantageous.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate a working knowledge of relevant British Standards such as BS7671, BS5266, BS5839, CIBSE Guidelines, Commercial Heating Systems and Legionella etc. Candidates should also be fluent in the use of the MS Office suite, SharePoint etc.

And have the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate documentation and reports as well as the ability to schedule workload, prioritise, adapt to changes in priorities, and to meet deadlines. Numeracy skills, including the ability to take measurements and calculate areas along with the ability to clearly and concisely describe the property or site in words are essential.

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

As a progressive employer, we offer the opportunity to work in this role as a “blended working” arrangement with home-working opportunities and occasional office-working as required. While the significant part of the role can and will be carried out remotely, candidates should be able to travel to and attend office locations in Fife as required.
