Capacity Planning Analyst
The Capacity Planning Analyst uses data and operational insight to forecast demand, assess capacity requirements, and identify current and future bottlenecks.
Working closely with the Strategic Planning Team, the role supports short-, medium-, and long-term planning, simulation modelling, and scenario analysis to inform business decisions and support London City Airport’s Capacity Declaration ambitions.
The role also produces regular performance reporting and provides actionable insights for various stakeholders to improve passenger flow, operational efficiency, service performance, and overall airport performance.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Undertake short to medium term forecasting for operational areas.
- Provide insight, analytics and MI reporting that supports operational functions (Airfield, Baggage, Terminals etc) to optimise business process and procedures.
- Leverage use of statistical analysis involving data collection, data interpretation and finally, data validation to enhance decision making.
- Support Capacity Manager in delivery of capacity declaration, undertake necessary capacity analysis.
- Identify Strategic operational KPIs for Operational performance review.
- Work closely with the Business Intelligence team to define the data requirements for the business and operations teams, supporting in the implementation of live-reporting.
- Coordinate with key internal external stakeholder relationships- primarily airlines, ground handlers and 3rd party operators as well key internal stakeholder supporting data driven approach in decision making.
- Responsible for submission of other regulated information such as ATP and OTP to the CAA.
Key Competencies:
Technical Expertise:
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills using tools such as Excel, Power BI and other Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of advance coding techniques (SQL, Visual Basic) would be an advantage.
Operational Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of airport processes, systems (AODB, baggage handling, security screening), and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated experience incorporating aviation seasonality, demand forecasting, and external influencing factors (including major events, disruptions, and peak travel periods) into capacity planning and resource modelling to ensure resilient and efficient airport operations.
- Support planning activities within a Level 3 (slot-coordinated) airport environment, ensuring alignment between declared capacity, slot allocation, and operational delivery.
Leadership & Influence:
- The ability to communicate effectively at all levels, and to present data and information in a manner that is readily understood by a wide audience of varied experience and including senior management.

- Highly adaptable, with proven capability to prioritise and manage a complex and evolving workload, responding efficiently to fluctuations in airport operations.
- Strong decision-making skills in dynamic operational contexts.
- Ability to work to deadlines and stay calm and collected under pressure.
Education, Training & Experience:
- Educated to a university level (preferably with a strong focus on Aviation, Airport Planning and Management) or considerable time in a role within airport planning or related field.
- Experience of modelling tools/technology: Arcport, CAST, Airtop, Sim 3D etc is desirable.
- Strong IT skills especially Excel and other Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of advanced data analysis through Business Intelligence solutions (Fabric, Qlik, etc.) including data manipulation would be an advantage
- Experience and understanding of statistical tools e.g. Minitab or other analytical platforms for statistical analysis would be desirable.
- Fluent in English (both writing and speaking).
- Experience in airport planning or related operations planning field.
- Experience of working across teams and multidisciplinary work streams, including project planning, quality control and progress monitoring, adapting to changing situations.
- Experience in process improvement and/or continuous improvement is desirable.
Hours of Work:
- Full time permanent (on occasion you will be required to work outside of the stated hours and days in order to maintain customer operations, security, and training processes)
- Role requires CTC clearance. Applicants must have lived in the UK for the past three years to obtain clearance
