Description: Full Time / 37 hours Per Week / Permanent There has never been a more exciting time to join local government finance within Leicester City Council than now. As our Chief Accountant, you will influence strategic decision-making while being part of a supportive and forward-thinking finance team. Working closely with senior leaders and elected members, you will play a key role in delivering the Council's priorities, while benefiting from a collaborative environment where experienced professionals work together to drive improvement and achieve positive outcomes for the city and its residents. The Council has maintained a strong track record of delivering its accounts and continues to strengthen its financial position despite the challenging local government funding environment. Recent budget and financial planning outcomes have placed the authority in a more favourable position, providing opportunities to focus on long-term financial sustainability, transformation and service improvement rather than short-term financial recovery. You will work 37 hours per week utilising our flexible working policy. Usually based at City Hall, the team are currently working a hybrid model of home and office based. What you'll be doing Providing the highest level of technical accounting support advice, leading the Annual Accounts process, revenue and capital reporting monitoring cycles, and provide strategic financial advice to develop strategies, policy and standards for the Council, including undertaking other highly complex technical activities. You will contribute to the development of the Council's medium-term financial strategy and policies, protecting the integrity of our financial systems and data. What you'll need As an experienced accountant, you must have an aptitude for technical accounting and finance systems, being able to provide high level strategic advice in a clear understandable manner. You'll have excellent technical and numeracy skills to deliver key financial accounting services. Highly motivated and organised with a positive “can do” attitude, you'll be able to communicate clearly with staff of all levels and with people from outside the Council. You'll have a keen eye for detail and a demonstrable record of delivery in a similar post.
