Applications are welcomed for this exciting opportunity to lead the Maudsley’s National and Specialist CAMHS DBT Service. We are one of the most established DBT-A programmes in the UK and in addition to our core clinical offer we also provide training, consultation and supervision to other programmes and CAMHS clinicians.

We are research active with a particular focus on adapting DBT for minoritized groups and developing and evaluating novel, DBT-informed interventions for young people and parent/carers that can be offered as early interventions.

The successful candidate will provide clinical and operational leadership for the DBT team and these various activities and will also have opportunities to work with the N&S CAMHS Senior Leadership Group on wider organisational developments and to contribute to shaping a culture of collective leadership within the directorate.

The successful candidate will support the day-to-day operation of the DBT service. As the clinical lead you will be responsible for ensuring fidelity to the evidence-based DBT model, promoting adherent practice within the team, as well as holding a small caseload of DBT clients.

Along with the other senior clinicians in the service, you will provide senior cover across the week by being available when team members require consultation and guidance on managing complex clinical dilemmas relating to risk and safeguarding concerns. You will also lead on certain service developments, evaluations and research and provide training, supervision and consultation to DBT-A programmes and CAMHS colleagues nationally.

You will be responsible for monitoring programme outcomes and ensuring Trust performance targets are met. You will also work with the Senior Management Team to ensure the service operates within its budgetary requirements. You will need to have considerable experience of working within a DBT programme at a senior level and an ability to provide effective supervision and support around complex clinical and workforce challenges.

You will demonstrate an ability to build strong relationships both within and outside of the team that foster collaboration, respect, and problem-solving of team and organisational dilemmas. You will have a passion for fostering team wellbeing and culture and a capacity to balance consultation to the team with a more directive approach.

The National & Specialist CAMHS Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Service is a well-established and supportive team based at the Michael Rutter Centre, Maudsley Hospital. The multi-disciplinary team of DBT Therapists consists of Clinical Psychologists, a Senior Systemic Psychotherapist, Nurses, a Social Worker, Clinical Psychologists in Training and an Assistant Psychologist. We also have in-

house support from a Consultant Psychiatrist and a Higher Trainee Psychiatrist. The service accepts referrals within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, Greater London Boroughs and nationally.

As a service we offer an intensive psychological assessment and treatment programme, including weekly skills groups for adolescents and parents/carers. Young people aged 13-17 years, with a history of self-harm and suicidal behaviour and difficulties with emotion regulation are eligible for the programme. The service also offers trauma-focused interventions where needed for those who are able to complete the first stage of DBT and we regularly treat young people with other clinical comorbidities.

DBT is a NICE guideline recommended evidence-based therapy. DBT has been shown to be effective with clients with self-harm and suicidal behaviours and symptoms associated with emotion dysregulation.
