Data Engineer – Power BI Specialist

The Data Engineer (Power BI Specialist) focuses on the semantic and reporting layer, ensuring that Power BI models and reports are well-structured, performant, and aligned to upstream curated data sources. The role emphasises clean separation between data processing and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyse and maintain Power BI datasets, semantic models, and reports.

• Refactor Power BI models to consume curated, upstream data sources.

• Ensure business logic is appropriately implemented upstream rather than embedded in reports.

• Validate report behaviour, measures, and refresh processes following data model changes.

• Perform regression testing and support data reconciliation activities.

• Collaborate with business analysts and data engineers to ensure accurate interpretation of business rules.

• Promote best practices for Power BI model design and governance.

Skills & Experience:

• Strong experience with Power BI, including datasets, semantic models, and measures.

• Good understanding of data modelling and relational data concepts.

• Ability to work with SQL-based data sources.

• Experience supporting reporting in enterprise or public-sector environments.

• Exposure to AI-assisted tooling (e.g. Power BI Copilot) is desirable but not essential.
