About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Digital Product Engineering Lead to help shape and deliver digital products and technology services that address genuine customer and business needs.

This is a technical leadership role for a T-shaped engineer who combines strong engineering capability with leadership, product thinking and a practical approach to solving business problems through technology.

The role remains predominantly hands-on, with responsibility for providing technical direction, supporting other engineers and contributing directly to the design and development of digital solutions.

This would suit someone who enjoys staying close to technology and delivery while also having an influence on product direction, engineering practices and business outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and contribute to the development of digital products and technology services.
• Work closely with business, product, customer and engineering stakeholders to understand needs and priorities.
• Translate business and customer requirements into practical, scalable digital solutions.
• Contribute to product discovery, technical design and delivery.
• Provide technical leadership while remaining actively involved in software development.
• Support and develop other engineers.
• Help improve engineering practices, development processes and ways of working.
• Explore the use of AI and automation to improve software development and service delivery.
• Build prototypes and proof-of-concepts to explore new ideas and opportunities.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and identify where they can provide practical business value.
• Work within a modern cloud-based technology environment.
• Champion pragmatic, lean engineering practices and continuously look for better ways to deliver value.
• Take ideas from initial concept through to production.

AI & Modern Engineering

A strong interest in AI-assisted software engineering and modern approaches to product development is highly desirable.

Experience applying AI tools to software development, automation, prototyping or engineering workflows would be advantageous.

The organisation is exploring how AI and automation can be used to accelerate development, improve existing services and create new digital capabilities.

About You

You will be a T-shaped, hands-on digital engineer who can combine technical depth with broader product and business thinking.

You will be comfortable:

• Working with business, product and customer stakeholders.

• Moving between product thinking, architecture, technical design and hands-on development.
• Providing technical leadership while continuing to contribute directly to delivery.

• Experimenting with new technologies and applying them where they can create genuine value.
• Taking ideas from concept and experimentation through to production.

UK-based role with flexibility around the specific working location.

The position operates within a hybrid working environment, with occasional attendance at organisational offices as required.
