Overview
Working within the Cargo and Vehicle Inspection section of Rapiscan Systems & AS&E Engineering team.
As part of our team, you will be involved in projects at all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial concept generation, new product introduction and continuous improvement in manufacture.
As a Systems Engineer you will be the expert responsible for large Cargo and Handheld Product engineering projects within the Cargo Division, while establishing and maintaining cost effective engineering processes and systems for design and product safety, to maximize efficiency and performance. Manage engineering project costs, ensuring all new products are delivered and achieved on time. Working with R & D to identify and introduces new technologies to raise technical methods and standards for future strategy.
Responsibilities
Oversee the planning, control and utilization of key engineering project activities relating to Cargo and Handheld products across the company.
Execute New Product Introduction programs in accordance with the organization’s objectives and ensure that these are delivered on time and to budget. Support the following aspects of the Project, delegating to Subject Matter Experts as needed: Project plan. Product requirements and specification. In-process reviews for technical adherence to requirements and completeness. Test procedures and reports. Work closely with the R & D group for timely introduction of new technologies. Work with Product Management to develop realistic New Product Goals and Roadmaps:

Responsibilities
Oversee the planning, control and utilization of key engineering project activities relating to Cargo and Handheld products across the company.
- Maintain awareness of current market, economic and technology trends to maximize opportunities and minimize risk.
- Contribute to the development of business strategy and plans.
- Provide feedback to Product Management regarding the status and expected delivery of products to the market along with specifications and expected budgets.
- Collaborate with senior management team to identify alternative markets and adjacent space opportunities to extend the product portfolio’s market reach.
- Transition new products from the design phase into main factory production:
- Ensure that Manufacturing goals and requirements are met during the Design Phase.
- Advocate for high quality design solutions that meet Customer’s expectations for maintenance and longevity.
- Work with the Configuration Management to ensure all BoM’s are prepared and up to date prior to the launch of the product.
- Review Product Manuals with Product Management to ensure completeness.
- Review Work Instructions with representatives from Operations to ensure accuracy.
- Understand the Product Line’s business commitments and contractual obligations (Revenue recognition, Customer schedule) and delivery Engineering content to Customer facing programs in a timely and cost-conscious fashion.
- Provide engineering / technical leadership for assigned product lines over the full product lifecycle, including product sustainment and end-of-life activities
- Support business development and bids & proposal activities, including concept development, and technical responses and estimating for B&P as required

Essential
- 5+ years’ experience as an Engineer in a relevant field of work
- BEng/BSc in an Engineering or other relevant field of study – Strong experience considered
- MEng/MSc in an Engineering or other relevant field of study
- Experience of overseeing the technical work of others, including reviewing concept designs, designs and documentation and authorising the release of deliverables.
- Demonstrable experience of engineering delivery on large and/or complex engineering projects.
- Problem solving capability and the ability to simplify, prioritise and resolving issues using data as well as good judgement.
- Able to communicate complex concepts and technologies, clearly and digestibly, to non-specialists, from the most junior colleague to the most senior Customer.
- Flexibility to respond to changing business needs.
- Willingness to travel with good presentation skills.
- Great time management skills.
- Able to work as part of a team and individually.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams & Word).
- Experience in using CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, Eplan or SolidWorks.
