ROLE SUMMARY

We're building something new. Data Platforms is a team of around 1,500 people who build and run the sourcing, platforming, and distribution of non-real-time data — such as pricing and reference data services — to financial institutions globally. We're reshaping how this engineering organisation operates to deliver at its best.

The Engineering Programme Delivery Lead will play a central role in delivering a major, strategically important technology programme spanning multiple engineering teams, products and platforms.

You'll work in close partnership with engineering and product leaders to turn programme objectives into coordinated, achievable delivery commitments. Crucially, you'll understand how programme work fits within individual team backlogs alongside other priorities, ensuring dependencies, sequencing and capacity constraints are visible and managed.

This isn't simply about managing plans and reporting progress. You'll dive into the detail, challenge assumptions and work with teams to solve problems. You'll help leaders make informed decisions about competing priorities, recognising that delivering the programme must be balanced against wider organisational risks, commitments and constraints.

You'll report to the Head of Portfolio & Business Management for Data Platforms. You'll succeed by combining strong delivery discipline, collaborative leadership and sound organisational judgement, keeping everyone focused on shared outcomes rather than individual teams' contributions.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Integrated Delivery Planning — Establish a credible programme plan grounded in the work, priorities and capacity of participating engineering teams. Ensure programme commitments are understood, reflected in team backlogs and supported by realistic delivery assumptions.
  • Dependencies & Prioritisation — Identify and actively manage cross-team dependencies, sequencing and competing demands. Work with engineering and product leaders to evaluate trade-offs, recognising when programme priorities must be balanced against broader organisational needs and risks.
  • Collaborative Delivery Leadership — Build close partnerships across engineering, product and other functions. Maintain a shared understanding of progress, constraints and priorities, bringing people together to resolve problems, agree decisions and deliver end-to-end outcomes.
  • Delivery Confidence & Intervention — Maintain an evidence-based understanding of delivery progress and risks. Investigate emerging issues, challenge assumptions and coordinate practical interventions. Present clear, actionable assessments to senior executives and board-level audiences, confidently explaining delivery confidence, risks, trade-offs and decisions required, including under scrutiny.
  • Sustainable Delivery & Improvement — Understand how workforce capacity, financial constraints, operational obligations and technology risks affect delivery. Ensure plans remain realistic and sustainable, continually improving how work is coordinated without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

You know how to coordinate complex technology delivery across teams with different priorities and accountabilities — and how to maintain progress when plans and circumstances change.

  • Proven programme delivery experience across multiple engineering teams, products or platforms, with significant dependencies and distributed accountability.
  • Strong integrated planning and dependency management, connecting programme objectives to team backlogs and understanding how competing commitments, capacity and sequencing affect delivery.
  • Sound organisational judgement, evaluating trade-offs between programme priorities and wider business needs, risks and constraints.
  • Collaborative leadership and influence, building trusted partnerships with engineering and product leaders, constructively challenging decisions and driving collective problem-solving without direct authority.
  • Credibility with engineering teams, understanding software delivery well enough to engage with technical discussions, question assumptions and identify constraints without needing to be the technical expert.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, using data to understand delivery reality, challenge assumptions and drive practical resolution of issues.
  • Executive-level communication and presence, with experience presenting complex delivery matters in high-stakes senior leadership forums and the credibility to engage at board level. You communicate concisely, defend evidence-based assessments, respond confidently to challenging questions and remain composed under pressure.

It would also be great if you bring

  • Experience in financial services, market data or fintech.
  • Experience delivering technology transformation, platform modernisation or cloud migration programmes.
  • Familiarity with Agile or product-led engineering environments and delivery tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, GitLab or Asana.

Above all, you take ownership, dive deep and challenge constructively. You work collaboratively, lead with data and focus on achieving the right outcomes for customers and the wider organisation — not simply delivering programme milestones at any cost.
