Equity Midwife
Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Equity Midwife to lead and coordinate our maternity equity programme across Frimley Health. This exciting new role will play a key part in reducing inequalities in maternity care, improving outcomes and experiences for women and birthing people from underserved communities, and supporting the delivery of national maternity priorities.
Working across both sites and with a wide range of internal and external partners, the post holder will help ensure maternity services are inclusive, culturally safe and responsive to the needs of our local population. The role includes both leadership and clinical responsibilities.
Main duties of the job
- Lead and coordinate the Trust's maternity equity work programme and associated action plans.
- Support the implementation of national maternity equity recommendations and guidance.
- Identify and address inequalities in access, experience and outcomes through data analysis, service improvement and partnership working.
- Develop strong relationships with service users, community groups, voluntary organisations and system partners to support meaningful co-production.
- Deliver education and support to maternity staff on culturally safe and inclusive care.
- Monitor progress against equity objectives and report outcomes through governance structures.
- Provide clinical leadership and support safe, effective care during allocated clinical shifts.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife (NMC)
- Degree in Midwifery or equivalent relevant qualification
- Practice assessor / practice supervisor or equivalent mentorship qualification
- Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development relevant to maternity practice and leadership
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or quality improvement training
- Study at Level 7 or working towards a postgraduate qualification
- Training in cultural safety, health inequalities, public health or inclusion
- Training in community engagement, co-production or service improvement methodologies
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post-registration midwifery experience, including experience working autonomously and coordinating care in a clinical setting
- Experience of supporting practice development, quality improvement or change within maternity services
- Experience of presenting or communicating complex or sensitive information to staff, women and families, or partner agencies
- Experience of working with diverse communities or groups who may experience health inequalities
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using data, audit findings or service user feedback to inform improvements in care
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good understanding of maternity inequalities and relevant national maternity and equity guidance
- Knowledge of culturally safe care, personalised care, public health principles and reducing inequalities in outcomes and experience
- Ability to organise and prioritise a complex workload and work autonomously within agreed parameters
Desirable criteria
- Good organisational and project support skills
