We have an opportunity to join our team as Regulatory Advisor, specialising in Financial Crime Prevention, on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for providing complex AML, Sanctions and FCP advice and guidance to the business to ensure that it’s able to meet its regulatory and legal obligations. You’ll manage direct liaison and guidance with stakeholders across the business, where you’ll provide advice, reports and regulatory guidance to those individuals in a proactive manner when needed. You may also be required to be responsible for a Business Partner role in a less complex area of the business and/or assist with a complex Business Partner area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for regulatory matters around Financial Crime and Sanctions.
  • Oversee the onboarding of work into Irwin Mitchell, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct risk assessments on new client and work onboarding from a Financial Crime perspective and provide recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Review and respond to incoming requests, assessing them from a risk perspective.
  • Liaise with the General Counsel team for approval of high-risk work.
  • Flag and escalate suspicious activity to the General Counsel.
  • Operate within the second line of defence, supporting governance and oversight functions.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of relevant regulations and ensure they are applied appropriately.

Experience Required

  • Proven expertise in financial crime compliance.
  • A background working in a Compliance team in a Law Firm or in-house legal function.
  • Hold extensive practical and technical knowledge and understanding of AML, Sanctions and Financial Crime Prevention policies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to negotiate when necessary.
  • Have the confidence to be able to present and report to senior managers, both written and verbal.
