Apprenticeship - September 2026

The Governance Officer Apprentice will support the Deputy Company Secretary and wider Company Secretarial team in delivering company secretarial and governance services to the Openwork Group. This is a development role, designed to build practical experience across board and committee administration, statutory filings and maintenance of corporate records, while working under supervision and following agreed processes.

This is a hybrid role based in Swindon. Please note, as part of the Apprenticeship, 20% of the working hours will be allocated to training, which could be a blend of classroom, eLearning, self-directed study, shadowing, project work etc.

Key accountabilities:

  • Assist with the organisation and delivery of meetings for boards, board committees and other senior management committees (including preparing admin checklists and coordinating actions)
  • Support the scheduling of meetings and help ensure attendees are informed of dates and times, escalating diary conflicts and issues as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining UK statutory company records and prepare Companies House filings for review, ensuring information is accurate and deadlines are met.
  • Maintain Company Secretarial records using physical and electronic filing systems, applying document control and confidentiality requirements.
  • Draft minutes and action logs for subsidiary company board and committee meetings for review by the Deputy Company Secretary (or delegated reviewer.)
  • Help collate, produce and distribute subsidiary board and management committee papers in electronic form, checking version control and completeness.
  • Support the preparation, approval process and filing steps for subsidiary company Annual Report and Accounts (with responsibility retained by senior team members.)
  • Assist with keeping terms of reference for boards, committees and other senior management committees up to date, escalating proposed changes for review and approval.
  • Help maintain and update Openwork Group corporate structure charts and diagrams, ensuring changes are reflected accurately and promptly.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Willingness to study towards Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) qualifications (or equivalent) as part of the Apprenticeship.
  • An interest in how organisations are governed and how groups of companies operate.
  • Interest in financial services and an appetite to learn relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Previous administrative experience (including placements, internships or part-time roles) is desirable; minute-taking experience is helpful but not essential.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills
