Job Description
Costain’s multi-disciplinary engineering and design team delivers comprehensive design solutions across a range of UK Infrastructure sectors - Energy, Defence & Nuclear, Water, Rail, Roads and Integrated Transport. The Civil & Structural Engineering discipline is a team of Engineers, Designers and Project Professionals working across all of Costain’s business sectors. The team covers the full project lifecycle from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction support. We focus on the delivery of sustainable, future ready and safe-by-design outputs with a strong constructability ethos.
As a Graduate Civil & Structural Engineer you will be responsible for a key element of design work on a project taking a significant role in technical delivery as well as managing aspects of time, cost and quality and will acquire technical, leadership and project management skills and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparing engineering design calculations, specifications and reports utilising emerging digital technology and in line with latest codes & standards
- Supporting the successful delivery of design projects in line with the contracted cost and programme Communicating with other members of the project team & supply chain, often in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Coordinating the detailing and drawing requirements on the project
- Developing designer’s risk assessments
- Identifying opportunities to improve the sustainability considerations in our projects including delivering low carbon solutions in our design processes
- Seek to improve existing ways of working, by finding efficiencies in processes and automating design deliverables
- Support the Work Winning team
- Full engagement with the Costain professional development scheme to become a Chartered Engineer within 3-4 year period

Qualifications
- Understanding of the CDM Regulations
- Minimum 2:1 achieved in a Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering degree accredited by the ICE or IStructE
- MSc or MEng in a Civil or Structural Engineering degree preferred
- Work experience relevant to the Civil & Structural Engineering sector preferred but not essential
- Have experience working with Eurocodes and British Standards
- Have passion for Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets
- IT proficient
- Able to work accurately and appreciate its importance to the team
- A willingness to learn with appropriate instruction
- Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships
- The ability to thrive in pressured situations
- The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of their background or circumstances
- Excellent organisation, communication, and time management skills
