The Vacancy

The RSK Group, a leading privately owned environmental, engineering and technical services business, is seeking a technically strong Group Finance Manager to play a key role within its Group Finance function.

Following sustained growth, RSK has become one of the UK's largest environmental and engineering services groups, generating annual revenues of approximately £2.5 billion. As the business continues to expand both organically and through strategic acquisitions, the finance function is playing a critical role in supporting growth, strengthening financial reporting, enhancing systems and controls, and driving operational excellence.

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the Group Finance Manager will lead Group consolidation, statutory reporting and external audit activities, while providing technical accounting expertise to senior finance leadership. The role offers extensive exposure to senior stakeholders, complex accounting matters and strategic initiatives, with significant scope to shape the finance function within a rapidly growing global organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Group Consolidation & Financial Reporting -

  • Own the Group consolidation process, ensuring timely, accurate reporting and strong financial control across a complex multi-entity organisation.
  • Drive continuous improvement in consolidation, governance and reporting, acting as the Group’s subject matter expert.
  • Partner with finance leaders to strengthen reporting disciplines, challenge submissions and ensure consistency across the Group.
  • Lead the implementation of future consolidation and reporting solutions to support the Group’s continued growth.

Statutory Reporting -

  • Lead the delivery of the Group’s annual statutory financial statements and associated reporting requirements
  • Own significant accounting judgements and reporting matters, ensuring conclusions are supported by appropriate technical analysis and robust documentation
  • Act as a key point of contact for the external auditors, advisers and internal stakeholders on Group reporting matters
  • Continuously improve the statutory reporting process, strengthening quality, control, efficiency and audit readiness

External Audit Management -

  • Lead the delivery of the Group external audit programme, overseeing approximately 80 material components and 100+ non-material entities, ensuring timely completion and high-quality outcomes.
  • Act as the primary relationship manager for external auditors, coordinating stakeholders across Group Finance, divisional teams, component auditors and advisers.
  • Drive audit planning, governance and execution, proactively managing risks, dependencies and the resolution of significant audit, accounting and reporting matters.
  • Strengthen audit readiness, reporting discipline and programme efficiency, while partnering with the Group Financial Controller and CFO on key judgements, governance and Audit Committee reporting.

Technical Accounting -

  • Act as a trusted technical accounting adviser to the Group Financial Controller, CFO and wider finance community, assessing complex, judgemental and non-routine accounting matters
  • Author and present clear technical accounting papers supporting key conclusions
  • Develop and maintain Group accounting policies, reporting guidance and financial control frameworks
  • Manage the Group's assessment and implementation of significant changes to UK GAAP, including the new revenue recognition and lease accounting requirements under FRS 102
  • Monitor emerging accounting developments and assess their implications for the Group

Leadership & Stakeholder Management -

  • Provide leadership across Group financial reporting processes within a relatively flat organisational structure
  • Build strong relationships with divisional finance directors, financial controllers and finance teams across the Group
  • Influence stakeholders at all levels to drive accountability, consistency and continuous improvement

Person Specification:

Essential Experience -

  • Trained within a Big Four or leading mid-tier accountancy practice.
  • ACA or ACCA qualified, or an equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification, with strong post-qualification experience taking ownership of, or playing a leading role in, a group consolidation process within a large, complex and acquisitive group structure, with multiple legal entities, reporting teams and stakeholders
  • Experience acting as the primary day-to-day contact for external auditors or leading significant elements of a group audit
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience of practical application of complex accounting issues. Experience of preparing and presenting technical accounting papers supporting significant accounting judgements and conclusions
  • Ability to organise and manage a varied workload across technical accounting, consolidation, audit, compliance and transformation activities, effectively prioritising resources to meet competing deadlines and a demonstrable track record of delivering high-quality outputs within demanding reporting timetable
  • Experience building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at senior levels and using influence to deliver outcomes in environments where direct line management authority is limited

Desirable Experience -

  • Acquisition accounting and business-combination experience
  • Experience implementing consolidation, reporting or finance systems
  • Experience leading process-improvement or finance-transformation initiatives
  • Exposure to corporate transactions, restructuring activities or complex reporting environments
  • Knowledge of construction, consultancy, engineering, environmental services or another project-led industry.
