Investment Professional (PE / Special Sits)

Investment Professional — Principal Investments

About the Firm

Our client is a privately owned investment firm undertaking principal investments across the capital structure, from equity to debt. The firm operates internationally across a range of industries and asset classes, is opportunistic by nature, and looks to deploy a unique skill set to generate investment opportunities and unlock unseen potential. Its portfolio includes some of the most recognisable brands in the world.

The firm operates as a lean, high-conviction team rather than a large institutional platform - investment professionals here are expected to be close to the businesses they back, not one layer removed from them.

Our client is looking for a VP / Investment Director to join its London team and take an active, hands-on role across origination, execution, and - critically - the ongoing management of portfolio investments post-completion. This is not a deal-execution-only or portfolio-monitoring role; it requires someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and getting genuinely involved in running and improving businesses once the firm has invested.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, and execute principal investment opportunities across the capital structure (equity and debt), often in complex, distressed, or non-standard situations
  • Lead due diligence and structuring for new investments
  • Take an active operational role in portfolio companies post-investment - working alongside management on strategy, performance, and value creation, not simply attending quarterly board meetings
  • Identify and drive turnaround, restructuring, or repositioning opportunities where flexible capital and a hands-on approach can unlock value
  • Build and maintain relationships with management teams, co-investors, advisers, and other counterparties
  • Monitor portfolio performance and proactively flag and address issues as they arise, rather than reporting on them after the fact
  • Represent the firm credibly in complex, fast-moving situations requiring judgement and direct ownership

What We're Looking For

  • Ideally, some special situations experience - distressed, turnaround, restructuring, or complex/non-standard investment situations
  • Genuine, hands-on, on-the-ground experience of running or actively managing investments - not simply a note-taker or observer at quarterly board meetings
  • A track record of getting close to portfolio businesses operationally, with direct involvement in driving performance and decisions
  • Strong technical grounding in investment structuring, due diligence, and execution across equity and debt
  • Comfort operating in a small, entrepreneurial team with high autonomy and direct accountability
