Job Purpose


We are seeking an IT Engineer who will be vital to overseeing and enhancing the IT systems, databases and infrastructure at Tropic Biosciences’ Norwich, UK site. Reporting directly to the Senior IT Manager, you will ensure Tropic’s technological environment remains secure, efficient, and reliable.


Responsibilities include system administration, user support, vendor management and driving improvements in IT operations. Providing second-line IT support, you will work closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver effective technological solutions.


Responsibilities


Databases

  • Coordinate communications between internal stakeholders and external developers to ensure effective management of LIMS development.
  • Carry out the administration of our Power Platform & Microsoft 365.
  • Support troubleshooting and testing development of our systems.


Systems / Infrastructure

  • Support with the management of external IT / data security service providers to ensure that our systems are as secure as possible.
  • Support with business-critical IT tasks and systems.
  • Maintain internal IT hardware requirements including laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones and software / security updates.
  • Work with external support providers to maintain internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, etc. and ensure server administration tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
  • Provide second-line IT support, taking on more complex issues passed on by first-line support.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve more complex IT issues, escalating to designated third-party service providers where needed.
  • Implement processes, procedures, and systems to bring improvements to the workplace.
  • Support web developers and other service providers to ensure our web domains are secure, maintained effectively and provide up-to-date information about Tropic.

  • To carry out other duties appropriate to the nature and grade of the post, as directed by the line manager.


Requirements


Essential

  • Proven experience supporting, maintaining and configuring a wide range of devices.
  • Strong, hands-on experience as a Microsoft 365 administrator, including Exchange Online, Entra ID (users, groups, licensing, conditional access), SharePoint, Teams and Intune.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform & Power BI.
  • Good experience in second-line IT support.


Desirable

  • Experience with LANs, WANs & Internet Technologies.
  • Experience with Asset Management.
  • Good level of scripting/coding knowledge of Power Fx, Python, JavaScript or C++.
  • Exposure to process mapping and Microsoft 365 database architecture (e.g. Dataverse).
  • Highly organised with good communication and negotiation skills.
  • Good understanding of PC hardware set-up and configuration.
  • Some understanding of non-Windows operating systems e.g. Linux / iOS.
  • Some knowledge of the bioscience community.
