Lead Data Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Lead Data Engineer to lead a multidisciplinary feature team delivering data products end-to-end — from initial design through build, testing, governance and go-live — on a modern cloud data platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a purely managerial one; the successful candidate will set technical direction, coach engineers, and remain close to the code and architecture.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and technically direct a feature team of data engineers delivering data products end-to-end.

Own delivery from ODP (source/data) selection through design, development, testing, validation, governance, deployment and go-live.

Drive engineering best practice: code quality, testing standards, CI/CD and DevOps discipline within the team.

Apply AI-enabled approaches to accelerate data development and testing where appropriate.

Act as the primary technical point of contact for the feature team, escalating risks and dependencies early.

Contribute to data architecture and MDM design decisions in partnership with architecture leads.

Mentor and develop engineers within the team; support onboarding of new team members.

Required Skills & Experience

Expert-level experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or a comparable cloud data engineering stack.

Advanced, hands-on experience with dbt, Python and SQL for data engineering.

Strong data modelling and ETL/ELT design experience.

Proven track record delivering data products end-to-end in a production environment.

Experience with testing, data validation and quality assurance frameworks.

Familiarity with Master Data Management (MDM) concepts, integration and implementation.

DevOps, CI/CD and deployment/governance experience in a regulated or enterprise environment.

• Demonstrable experience leading or technically directing a team of engineers.
