Lead for Psychological Interventions MH Needs for Older Adults
Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a consultant psychologist to join us 3 days a week in mental health services for older people. The role is central to leading our Mental Health Needs strategy and vision across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Building on existing plans you would be working closely with operational colleagues and our psychology lead for Structured Clinical Management.
You would be joining a supportive wider team of psychological professions staff embedded in their clinical teams across both our dementia and Mental Health Needs pathways. In addition to strategic leadership you would be offering sessional time to an Older Adult Mental Health/locality team, offering consultation, training and MDT work.
Psychology is highly valued across both counties and we would actively support the person in developing their career. Main duties of the job
Providing strategic leadership, working alongside and taking a lead in the West Midlands and nationally around developments in mental health needs for older people Helping empower and develop the capability and expertise of psychological professions staff and staff from other disciplines working in our older adult teams Using research, audit and evaluation to support, embed and develop the evidence base for therapeutic work for older people Providing complex assessments and interventions for people with Mental Health Needs.
Interventions may involve family members and carers and include liaison and consultation. To develop multi-disciplinary training plans for staff working within our Mental Health Needs pathway with support from the service leads

Person Specification
Qualifications · Essential
BSc/BA Honours degree at 2:1 or above in psychology. Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) Post-graduate level or above training and qualification in NHS leadership/management or equivalent leadership/ management experience Eligible for registration as a Chartered Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling) by the BPS Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
Experience · Essential
Experience required specific to the role and clinical area Experience in developing research and development programmes within psychology therapy services Experience in teaching and training of trainee and post-qualification psychological therapists, and of non-psychological staff NHS/Leadership experience ? managing or providing professional leadership to a range of qualified psychological therapy staff (including recruitment, appraisal, performance management and clinical supervision) Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for the application of multi-theoretical psychological assessment, intervention and evaluation with a range of common and complex mental health needs Experience working within multidisciplinary services
