Location: Oxford (Hybrid)
Murphy is recruiting a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Water business and play a key role on a newly awarded major infrastructure project in Oxford.
This is a unique opportunity to join one of the UK's leading infrastructure contractors at the early stages of a landmark scheme that will deliver critical improvements to the region's water infrastructure. The project will involve significant civil engineering works, extensive stakeholder engagement, and the management of a substantial supply chain, offering an exciting and challenging commercial leadership role.
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will lead the commercial function on a major infrastructure project, ensuring robust cost management, contract administration, risk mitigation, and commercial performance throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and supply chain partners to drive value and support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all commercial activities across the project.
- Ensure effective cost reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and financial control.
- Administer and manage NEC contracts, including compensation events and change control.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.
- Oversee subcontract procurement, management, and final account settlement.
- Provide commercial leadership and support to project teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and supply chain partners.
- Support business objectives by driving commercial performance and maximising project value.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Significant experience delivering major infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
- Proven experience leading commercial activities on large-scale projects valued at £50m+.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC forms of contract.
- Experience in cost reporting, forecasting, risk management, and change control.
- Excellent negotiation, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Chartered status (MRICS) or working towards chartership.
- Experience within the water sector.
- Experience working for a principal contractor on complex infrastructure projects.
Please note: Water or MEICA experience is advantageous but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with experience delivering major projects across civil engineering, utilities, transportation, energy, or other infrastructure sectors.
