Materials and Test Technician

South Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 5 days ago

Help us test the technologies keeping tomorrow’s data centres cool

Iceotope is developing advanced liquid-cooling technologies for data centres, high-performance computing and edge applications. We are looking for a practical and methodical Materials and Test Technician to join our Laboratory and Testing team at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Sheffield.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work and wants to build their career in an innovative engineering environment.

You will support engineers with materials testing, sample preparation, fluid-handling activities and the operation of laboratory test equipment. Your work will help us generate dependable test data, understand how materials and fluids perform over time, and develop reliable liquid-cooling technology.

What you’ll be doing

  • Preparing material and fluid samples for laboratory testing.
  • Setting up, operating and monitoring test equipment and experiments.
  • Supporting materials compatibility, ageing and performance-testing activities.
  • Taking accurate measurements and recording test conditions and results.
  • Inspecting samples and components before, during and after testing.
  • Following defined test methods, laboratory procedures and work instructions.
  • Helping engineers identify unusual results, equipment issues or changes in sample condition.
  • Handling, labelling, storing and disposing of materials and fluids safely.
  • Maintaining test equipment, tools and laboratory work areas.
  • Supporting equipment checks, calibration activities and basic fault finding.
  • Maintaining clear and traceable test records.
  • Contributing to laboratory safety, housekeeping and continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

You will be practical, reliable and comfortable working carefully with tools, test equipment, materials and fluids.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A technical qualification in engineering, materials science, chemistry, laboratory science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience gained in a laboratory, engineering, manufacturing, testing or technical environment.
  • The ability to follow technical instructions, test procedures and safety requirements accurately.
  • Good practical skills and confidence using tools or technical equipment.
  • The ability to take accurate measurements and maintain clear records.
  • A methodical approach and strong attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office or similar applications.
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to ask questions when something does not look right.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Experience with CAD, designing and assembling test rigs, materials testing, sample preparation, chemicals, industrial fluids, data logging or laboratory equipment would be helpful, but it is not essential. Training and support will be provided.

What will make you successful

You will enjoy practical problem-solving and take pride in producing accurate, dependable work. You will be naturally organised, safety-conscious and willing to learn. Just as importantly, you will understand that good testing depends on preparation, consistency and careful attention to detail.

Why join Iceotope?

You will join a collaborative team working on technology that addresses one of the most significant challenges facing the data-centre industry: cooling increasingly powerful computing systems efficiently and sustainably.

The role offers the opportunity to:

  • Gain hands-on experience with innovative liquid-cooling technology.
  • Develop your knowledge of materials, fluids and engineering testing.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists.
  • Contribute directly to product development and technical decision-making.
  • Build a long-term career in an emerging and fast-developing industry.

Benefits

  • Annual leave 30 days + stats
  • Life assurance
  • Private Medical
  • Pension
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Free fruit
  • Free Parking

If you are a practical and curious person who enjoys understanding how things work, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Iceotope is committed to creating an inclusive working environment. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and will consider reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
