About The Role
We're looking for a Meter Assurance Officer to join our Energy Balancing team. You'll play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of gas metering data across the National Transmission System, helping to minimise Unaccounted for Gas (UAG) and support the efficient operation of the gas market.
Accurate gas metering is critical to the safe, efficient and commercial operation of the gas transmission network. This role provides the analysis, investigation and assurance activities that help maintain confidence in settlement and billing data, while identifying opportunities to reduce gas losses and improve network performance.
Working closely with customers, meter asset owners, industry participants and internal stakeholders, you'll investigate metering issues, support reconciliation activities and use data-driven insights to influence operational and commercial decisions. You'll also contribute to the ongoing development of Energy Balancing arrangements as National Gas supports the transition to a net zero energy system.

What You'll Be Doing
- Investigating metering anomalies and Unaccounted for Gas (UAG) to identify potential sources of measurement error and gas losses.
- Undertaking meter assurance and witnessing activities, producing reports and recommendations to improve metering accuracy.
- Supporting meter reconciliation activities, ensuring identified metering errors are accurately quantified and resolved.
- Producing analysis and reporting to identify trends, support forecasting activities and provide meaningful business insight.
- Developing and improving analytical processes, reporting tools, visualisations and forecasting methodologies.
- Building effective relationships with customers, asset managers, meter owners and other stakeholders to resolve issues and drive corrective actions.
- Contributing to industry change initiatives, process improvements and the evolution of Energy Balancing arrangements.
What you'll bring
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and explain complex technical information clearly to a range of audiences.
- Proven ability to collaborate across multiple business areas, building strong partnerships and contributing positively to shared objectives.
- Experience in quantitative analysis, data interpretation and risk assessment, with the ability to identify trends, investigate anomalies and support evidence-based decision making.
- Experience working with customers, asset owners and stakeholders to resolve technical, operational or compliance-related issues within commercial environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical information and present clear recommendations and practical solutions.
- Educated to HNC level (or equivalent experience), ideally in an engineering, science, mathematics or related discipline.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- An appreciation of gas transmission networks, including the National Transmission System (NTS), its key assets and the factors that can contribute to Unaccounted for Gas (UAG).
- Knowledge of commercial and incentive frameworks within regulated utility, infrastructure or energy businesses.
- Knowledge of gas metering technologies and metering principles, with practical experience of their application within the gas industry.
- Understanding of the technical and/or commercial aspects of high-pressure gas metering, including meter performance, accuracy and assurance activities.
- Experience developing or improving analytical processes, reporting tools, data visualisations or forecasting techniques.
- Knowledge of industry settlement, reconciliation and energy balancing processes.
- Experience working within commercial frameworks associated with energy balancing, invoicing or allocation processes.
