Mobile Service Support Fitter

Licensed sponsor Manchester Posted 14 months ago

Job Introduction

Are you currently working within the plant, tool hire or construction equipment industry and looking for your next challenge?

We have an exciting opportunity to join MEP Hire as a Mobile Service Support Engineer, covering the M62 corridor (to Leeds) and Greater Manchester area.

This is a varied, hands-on mobile role for someone with strong mechanical knowledge who enjoys getting out on the road, solving problems and supporting customers and colleagues. You’ll be provided with a company vehicle and have the opportunity to increase your earnings through overtime while developing your skills across a broad range of plant, tools and specialist equipment.

Reporting to the National Service Manager, you will provide technical and engineering support across our branch and customer network, servicing, maintaining and repairing both MEP Hire assets and customer-owned equipment. Your work will help ensure equipment remains safe, compliant and available when our customers need it.

Ideally living in the Manchester area we’re looking for someone with experience in plant hire, construction equipment, tool hire, mechanical engineering or a similar environment who is ready to take the next step in their career. You’ll need strong fault-finding and repair skills, a practical hands-on approach, a valid UK driving licence and the confidence to work independently across multiple locations.

Experience with MEP, access, lifting or construction equipment would be an advantage, as would knowledge of IPAF, LEEA and HAE standards but this by no means a deal breaker. Relevant mechanical or electrical qualifications are beneficial, but strong industry experience will also be considered.

Where required, we can support the right candidate in achieving relevant industry certifications and further technical development.

If you’re looking for a role that offers variety, responsibility, guaranteed overtime, a company vehicle and ongoing development, this could be the ideal next move within the plant and equipment industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, service, repair and maintain mechanical and electrical plant, construction and industrial equipment.
  • Work on a varied range of equipment, including press-fit tools, low-level access equipment, pipework systems and associated MEP products.
  • Attend branches and customer locations across the M62 corridor and Greater Manchester area to provide technical support.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and help minimise downtime for customers.
  • Carry out inspections and certification of MEP Hire assets and customer-owned equipment.
  • Complete workshop and asset audits to ensure equipment and working practices meet required operational standards.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support, technical advice and product demonstrations to colleagues and customers.
  • Support and share knowledge with apprentices and branch teams across the MEP Hire network.
  • Assist with fleet, equipment and branch investigations where required.
  • Provide workshop support and assist with stock checks across branch locations.
  • Maintain accurate service, repair and inspection records in line with company procedures.
  • Work safely and consistently in accordance with company Health & Safety requirements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working within plant hire, construction equipment, tool hire, mechanical engineering or a similar environment.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to work independently while travelling between locations.
  • A valid UK driving licence.
  • Good problem-solving, analytical and fault-finding skills.
  • Comfortable using IT systems and completing service and inspection records.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • A flexible approach to working hours and willingness to support the business when required.
  • Awareness of relevant HSE requirements and safe working practices.
  • Experience servicing or repairing MEP, access, lifting or construction equipment would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of IPAF, LEEA and HAE standards would be beneficial.
  • IPAF CAP, LEEA LEG or LMM certification is advantageous, although training can be provided for the right candidate.
  • A relevant mechanical or electrical engineering qualification is beneficial, although substantial relevant industry experience will also be considered.
