The theatre complex at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is one of the largest and most modern in the region, providing a dynamic, innovative, and supportive environment.

Our department comprises a wide range of specialist theatres delivering care across multiple surgical specialties including general surgery, orthopaedics & trauma, vascular, urology, gynaecology, ENT, maxillofacial, obstetrics, and emergency surgery. This diverse case mix provides an excellent opportunity for newly qualified ODP/Theatre Nurses.

We also undertake robotic-assisted surgery, and have 4 robots offering staff the opportunity to work with advanced technologies and be part of the future of surgical care.

As a Theatre Practitioner (ODP/Nurse), you will work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, safe peri-operative care across a range of surgical specialities. You will undertake anaesthetic, scrub, and post anaesthetic care duties, supporting patients throughout their surgical journey while ensuring safety, dignity, and comfort at all times.

You will assess, monitor, and evaluate patient needs, contribute to the effective running of theatre lists, and support colleagues and learners within a collaborative team environment. You will also be responsible for maintaining professional standards, adhering to Trust policies, and actively contributing to service improvement and your own ongoing development.

You will be expected to work flexibly across specialties, developing enhanced clinical skills and supporting the integration of new technologies and practices within the department.

Examples Of Decisions You Will Make Include

  • Assessing a patient’s condition and escalating concerns or adapting care plans appropriately
  • Prioritising tasks and responding to changes in theatre lists, including emergencies
  • Contributing to safe theatre practice by ensuring equipment, staffing, and environment meet clinical needs
