Platform Engineer
FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking Platform Engineers to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 6-12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Edinburgh.
Our client is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to help design, build and evolve an enterprise Agentic AI Platform and its supporting engineering services.
This is a senior, hands-on technical role combining platform engineering, cloud architecture, automation and governance. The successful candidate will work closely with CIO delivery teams to enable the safe and effective adoption of approved AI platform capabilities, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, reusable and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
Acting as a bridge between platform engineering, architecture, security and governance, the Platform Engineer will develop reusable services, automated workflows and platform controls while supporting the onboarding of teams, products and solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build and continuously evolve the Agentic AI Platform and its supporting engineering services.
- Develop reusable platform capabilities, templates, automations and workflows that accelerate delivery while maintaining appropriate governance.
- Implement, operate and enhance core platform services, including:
- Azure AI Foundry
- Azure API Management (APIM)
- Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
- Azure Container Apps
- Azure AI Search
- Model Context Protocol (MCP) services and supporting infrastructure
- Establish and maintain platform standards, guardrails, policies and onboarding requirements.
- Review technical and solution designs, providing guidance to ensure alignment with approved architectural principles and platform patterns.
- Assess onboarding requests from teams, products and solutions seeking to use platform capabilities.
- Partner with CIO delivery teams to support successful platform adoption and implementation.
- Work collaboratively with architecture, security and governance teams to ensure platform controls remain aligned with enterprise requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve platform reliability, performance, security, usability and cost efficiency.
- Monitor platform usage, adoption and operational health, using feedback and telemetry to drive continuous improvement.
- Produce and maintain platform documentation, reference architectures, onboarding guidance and reusable implementation patterns.
- Capture emerging requirements and lessons learned from CIO delivery groups to help shape the platform roadmap.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies, engineering practices and delivery patterns to support the continued evolution of the platform
About You
- Proven experience designing, building and operating cloud-native platforms.
- Strong knowledge of platform engineering, DevOps and software delivery lifecycle practices.
- Hands-on experience developing infrastructure automation and self-service platform capabilities.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure platforms and services.
- Strong understanding of APIs, microservices and modern cloud architecture.
- Experience implementing security, governance and operational controls within engineering environments.
- Experience reviewing technical designs and defining engineering standards.
- Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and automated deployment practices.
- The ability to work effectively with delivery teams to drive platform adoption and consumption.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- An interest in AI-assisted delivery and emerging agentic engineering approaches.
