Frontier Economics is an economics consultancy that tackles the big questions facing governments, businesses and society. We help our clients to analyse and understand their markets and to formulate strategies based on sound economics. The methods and models we use are often complex, but our advice is always succinct, clear and honest.

The company has grown rapidly since it was founded almost 27 years ago and currently has around 500 staff working across nine European offices (Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, Dublin, London, Madrid, Paris and Prague). The company is employee-owned and has a strong culture of openness and employee engagement.

We are looking for a Practice Manager to join our Transport & Water practice. This is a broad and influential role, working closely with our Practice Directors and senior economists to help shape how the practice operates and support its continued success.

You will sit at the heart of the practice, bringing together people, financial and operational priorities. From supporting business planning and workforce decisions to improving ways of working and helping deliver the practice strategy, you will play an important role in ensuring the practice runs effectively and is well positioned for the future.

Key responsibilities

Your responsibilities will vary in line with the needs of the practice, but are expected to include:

  • Practice management and strategy: Working closely with Practice Directors to ensure the smooth running of the practice, translate strategic priorities into action, support business planning and proactively identify operational risks and opportunities to improve how the practice operates.
  • Financial and management information: Providing clear and insightful financial and management information, monitoring practice finances and leading internal meetings on this data, identifying trends, risks and opportunities, and using these insights to support decision-making and drive action.
  • People and workforce planning: Working closely with HR Business Partners and Resource Managers on workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, development, wellbeing and other people priorities.
  • People management: Line managing Pas within the practice, providing day-to-day support, performance management and development, and ensuring effective support across the practice.
  • Learning and development: Supporting the practice's L&D plan, coordinating the Career Development Review process and helping drive EDI priorities.
  • Continuous improvement: Identifying and leading improvements to processes and ways of working within the practice, as well as helping embed wider firm initiatives.
  • Business development: Supporting the delivery of the practice's business development activities, including events, marketing activity and the client feedback programme.
  • Working across Frontier: Building strong relationships with other Practice Managers and teams across Frontier, sharing best practice and helping solve problems collaboratively.

Essential Requirements

We are looking for someone who is comfortable operating at both a strategic and hands-on level. You'll be able to anticipate what a busy practice needs, bring structure to complex priorities and build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to consult and influence internal teams and stakeholders at a professional level;
  • A developmental mindset, committed to personal growth and learning and to supporting others to achieve their long-term potential;
  • High level of autonomy with demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to manage complex situations with minimal guidance;
  • Proven ability to manage confidential information with discretion
  • Previous people management experience, or demonstrable experience supporting and developing others.

We are open to part time and full time applications.
