Job Overview
The Pre-Assessment Department at Heatherwood Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our experienced team of Pre-Operative Assessment Nurses.
This role involves carrying out both face-to-face and telephone assessments for patients awaiting elective surgery, ensuring they are fully prepared and clinically fit for their procedures to proceed safely. You will work within a nurse-led service, collaborating closely with anaesthetic colleagues and adhering to local and national guidelines for the pre-operative management of both day-case and inpatient procedures.
Main duties of the job
You will be based within the pre-operative assessment clinic at Heatherwood Hospital and will review patients from multiple surgical specialities. The purpose of pre-assessment is to prepare patients for surgery, optimise their health and help to reduce cancellations. It requires an accurate assessment of a patient's general health and fitness before surgery which is underpinned with pre-operative testing and investigations. All patients undergoing a general anaesthetic will require a nurse led pre-assessment, and we are looking for an experienced and dynamic nurse to complement our clinical team.
