Role Description The Principal Mechanical Engineer role is a full-time hybrid position based in the London Area, United Kingdom, with some flexibility for working from home. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will lead mechanical design projects from concept through delivery, overseeing the development of building services and systems that support sustainable and compliant built environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing project scopes, coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, reviewing detailed mechanical calculations and CAD models, and ensuring technical quality across all project stages. The role will involve guiding research and development initiatives, mentoring junior engineers, and liaising with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to align designs with client needs, regulatory standards, and Frankham Group’s commitment to improving the built environment.
Qualifications

• Strong Mechanical Engineering foundations, including design of building services and mechanical systems, with the ability to apply engineering principles to complex projects.
• Proficiency in Machine Design and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools to develop, review, and optimize detailed mechanical layouts and models.
• Demonstrated Project Management skills, including planning, resource coordination, risk management, and delivery of projects on time and within budget.
• Experience in Research and Development (R&D), with the ability to investigate new technologies, improve design methodologies, and support innovation in sustainable engineering solutions.
• Relevant engineering degree (e.g., Mechanical Engineering) and chartered or working toward chartered status with a recognized professional body.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in the built environment sector, particularly building services or consultancy work, and familiarity with UK regulations and industry standards.
• Ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members in a collaborative, inclusive, and safety-focused environment.
