Principal Process Engineer - Clean Water

Our Clean Water teams are growing across the Midlands, Wales and South West, with positions available in Birmingham, Redditch, Derby, Cardiff, Bristol or Exeter. As a Principal Process Engineer, you’ll bring your technical expertise to a varied portfolio of Clean Water work, taking ownership of process engineering delivery and working alongside experienced specialists across the wider Water team.

About The Role
As a Principal Process Engineer, you’ll take ownership of process engineering delivery across a range of Clean Water projects, providing technical input from early optioneering and feasibility through to detailed design and delivery. You’ll develop and review process designs, calculations, specifications and technical reports, using your expertise to shape practical solutions and resolve complex engineering challenges.
Working closely with clients, project managers and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll ensure process requirements are effectively integrated throughout project delivery. You’ll also contribute to proposals and framework opportunities, while sharing your expertise with colleagues and supporting the development of engineers across the wider Process Engineering team.

You’ll Help To
- Turn complex engineering requirements into practical, deliverable solutions.
- Improve the efficiency, reliability and sustainability of water treatment assets.
- Provide sound technical judgement throughout project development and delivery.
- Give clients confidence in the solutions being developed for their assets.
- Raise technical capability across the wider Process Engineering team through knowledge sharing and mentoring.
ABOUT YOU Essential
- Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant professional institution.
- Significant experience delivering Clean Water process engineering within the UK water sector.
- Strong understanding of water treatment processes and process engineering principles.
- Experience developing and reviewing process designs and technical deliverables.
- Proven ability to take technical ownership within multidisciplinary projects.
- Good understanding of UK water industry standards, regulations and design requirements.
- Confident communicator with the ability to work effectively with clients and project teams.
Desirable
- Experience across water treatment works, water supply, strategic water resources or asset improvement.
- Experience in treatment process selection, optioneering or feasibility studies.
- Experience preparing technical specifications, reports and design documentation.
- Experience supporting bids, frameworks or proposals.
- Experience providing technical guidance or mentoring to developing engineers.
- Awareness of emerging Clean Water challenges, including resilience, water scarcity and changing water quality requirements.
