Project Engineer ( Environmental Design)

Working within the project delivery team, the Project Engineer ( Environmental Design) you’ll work as part of the project delivery team, managing environmental design requirements, supporting consultant outputs, and working closely with construction teams to ensure delivery aligns with approved designs and DCO commitments.


You will bring with you, environmental thinking:

  • Embed DCO, Code of Construction Practice, environmental and sustainability requirements into project designs.
  • Work with engineering teams to develop safe, compliant and cost-effective solutions.
  • Promote sustainable design choices that reduce carbon, waste and environmental impact.


Your experience will include managing consultants and design outputs and contract management:

  • Prepare and manage environmental and sustainability design briefs for external consultants.
  • Review, coordinate and quality check consultant deliverables.
  • Support technical evaluations and help define asset information requirements.


Skillset should ideally include experience of supporting construction and handover:

  • Provide environmental input on design changes during construction and handover.
  • Help construction teams manage environmental and sustainability constraints on site.
  • Review as-built information and support commissioning, close-out and handover.
  • Maintain compliance with legal, statutory, standards and DCO requirements.


Communication is key you will be helping to Influence wider project delivery:

  • Help project teams understand environmental and sustainability impacts on cost, programme and delivery.
  • Support stakeholder engagement, CDM duties and continuous improvement across design management processes.


What we’re looking for

  • A degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Planning, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience embedding environmental and sustainability requirements into design or construction on major UK infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of UK environmental and sustainability legislation.
  • Experience managing consultant deliverables and working with regulators or local authorities.
  • A good understanding of construction, HSE, quality, close-out and handover.
  • A practical, resilient approach with confidence working through ambiguity.


Desirable

  • Chartered membership of a recognized engineering or environmental institution would be advantageous.
  • Experience managing multiple design projects, NEC contracts, PMIs or contractor claims would also be useful.
  • A CSCS card would be beneficial.
