Job Summary:

The HVAC / Refrigeration Sales, Design and Application Engineer is responsible for identifying business opportunities, developing technical refrigeration solutions, and supporting customers throughout the sales and project lifecycle. This role combines technical design expertise, applications engineering, and commercial sales activities to deliver efficient, compliant, and cost-effective refrigeration systems. The successful candidate will work closely with customers, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.


Sales & Business Development

• Identify and secure new business opportunities within Refrigeration sectors.

• Maintain and develop strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.

• Conduct site surveys and client meetings to assess project requirements.

• Prepare and deliver commercial proposals.

• Support the achievement of departmental sales and revenue targets.


Applications Engineering

• Review customer specifications, tender documentation, and project requirements.

• Develop bespoke refrigeration solutions tailored to customer applications and operational needs.

• Select refrigeration equipment, controls, and associated components based on performance and efficiency requirements.

• Carry out cooling load calculations and system performance assessments.

• Evaluate refrigerant options and recommend suitable technologies in line with environmental and regulatory requirements.

• Provide technical support and advice to customers, consultants, and internal teams.


Design & Engineering

• Design HVAC & Refrigeration systems, including HFC, HFO, CO₂, and glycol-based applications.

• Prepare system layouts, equipment schedules, technical drawings, and specifications.

• Ensure designs comply with customer requirements, industry standards, and company procedures.

• Support project delivery teams with technical reviews and design modifications where required.


Estimating & Tendering

• Prepare detailed quotations, tenders, and project cost estimates.

• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain technical information and competitive pricing.

• Review project risks and identify value engineering opportunities.

• Support contract negotiations and project handovers to operational teams.

 

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with project managers, installation teams, service engineers, and procurement personnel.

• Provide technical support throughout project delivery and commissioning.

• Participate in project review meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Support and mentor junior engineers where appropriate.

Technical Expertise

• Strong understanding of HVAC & Refrigeration systems and associated controls.

• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.

• Knowledge of energy-efficient refrigeration technologies and sustainable design practices.

• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, industry developments, and legislative changes.

Compliance & Standards

• Ensure all designs comply with relevant building regulations, industry standards, and client specifications.

• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and submittals.

• Maintain accurate records of design revisions and approvals.

Customer Relationship Management

• Provide expert technical advice and application support to customers.

• Build long-term relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors.

• Manage customer expectations throughout the sales, design, and delivery process.

• Identify opportunities for system upgrades, energy improvements, and additional services.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum 5 years' experience within the refrigeration industry.

• Proven experience in refrigeration sales, applications, design, estimating, or project engineering.

• HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.

• Strong knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems.

• Experience with cooling load calculations, equipment selection, and refrigeration system design.

• Knowledge of CO₂ refrigeration systems desirable.

• Full UK driving licence.
