Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Division: Engineering & Technical Services Location: Site-based / mobile (as required) Reporting to: Engineering Manager / Contract Manager Hours: 40 hours per week (with on-call / shift rota as required)
Role Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of mechanical building services, plant, and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the facility. The role supports business continuity, statutory compliance, and high standards of service delivery across the site.

Mechanical Maintenance

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of mechanical building services, plant, and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the facility. The role supports business continuity, statutory compliance, and high standards of service delivery across the site.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Maintenance
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on mechanical systems including:
- HVAC systems
- Boilers, pumps, motors, FCUs, AHUs
- Pipework, valves, hot and cold water systems
- Diagnose mechanical faults, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs. [01 M&E Techician Word]
- Support minor mechanical installations and system modifications.
- Ensure all works are completed in line with:
- Health & Safety legislation
- Approved Codes of Practice
- Site-specific risk assessments and permits
- Report defects and risks that may impact safety or compliance.
- Assist with audits, inspections, and statutory checks.
- Complete all PPMs, reactive tasks, and documentation accurately via the CAFM/work order system.
- Carry out plant checks and routine building walkarounds.
- Liaise with subcontractors and supervise specialist works where required.
- Maintain tools, spares, and plant areas in a safe and orderly condition.
- Work collaboratively with electrical engineers and multi-skilled technicians.
- Communicate technical information clearly to engineers, supervisors, and site stakeholders.
- Provide a proactive, customer-focused maintenance service at all times.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Working knowledge of HVAC and building services systems
- Ability to read technical drawings and service manuals
- Competent with CAFM systems and basic Microsoft Office tools
- Organised, adaptable, and safety-focused
- Willingness to undertake further training and upskilling
- Recognised mechanical qualification (NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
- Proven experience in building services or facilities maintenance
- Water Hygiene / Legionella awareness (desirable)
- Experience in healthcare or critical environments (desirable)
- Full UK driving licence (if mobile role)
- Ability to lift/carry equipment up to approximately 25kg
- Comfortable working at height, in plant rooms, and confined spaces
- Able to stand, walk, climb ladders, and carry out manual tasks safely
