The Role:

Reporting to the Embedded Software Engineering Lead, you'll take a senior technical role in the architecture, design, development, testing and continuous improvement of embedded software products from concept through to commercial delivery.


Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you'll take ownership of embedded software activities, helping to define robust architectures and develop reliable, high-quality software for Viper's products. You'll also provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers and help drive engineering best practice across the team.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Define, develop and code embedded software products and solutions to meet internal and external requirements.
  • Develop embedded software architectures for new and existing products.
  • Design, develop, maintain, debug and test software for ARM microprocessors and STM32 microcontrollers.
  • Develop embedded applications in C, C++ and scripting languages.
  • Work with microcontroller peripherals for data acquisition and control, including USB, I2C, SPI, UART, DMA, ADC and DAC.
  • Develop reliable, highly available embedded applications.
  • Develop firmware for communication interfaces including Ethernet, RS485, RS232, CAN and LCD.
  • Research and evaluate new software technologies and their potential applications.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation in accordance with company procedures and promote good documentation practice across the team.
  • Coordinate and plan technical activities, providing support and mentoring to less experienced engineers.


What We Are Looking For:

We're looking for someone who can combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.


You'll ideally have:

  • A degree (or equivalent experience) in Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or a related engineering discipline.
  • Extensive experience developing embedded software within a commercial engineering environment.
  • Strong hands-on development experience in C and C++.
  • Experience developing software for ARM-based microprocessors and STM32 microcontrollers.
  • Strong understanding of embedded software architecture and development practices.
  • Experience working with common microcontroller peripherals and hardware interfaces.
  • Experience developing communications functionality using technologies such as Ethernet, RS485, RS232 and CAN.
  • Experience developing, debugging and testing reliable embedded systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills.
  • A passion for mentoring others and driving engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
