Role Summary


Redcentric is seeking a Senior Product Engineer - VMware to deliver complex hands-on engineering activity across its VMware-based product and managed service capabilities. The role will focus on VMware Cloud Foundation, VCF 9+ private cloud operating models, multi-tenant service platforms, Kubernetes-enabled workloads, declarative infrastructure and automation capabilities that support secure, scalable and operationally robust managed services.


Working under the guidance of the Product Technical Lead, the successful candidate will provide subject matter expertise across product initiatives, translate assigned requirements, defects, technical debt items and improvement opportunities into well-engineered outcomes, and contribute to the continual improvement of engineering standards, automation, operational readiness and service quality.


This is a senior technical role suited to an experienced VMware engineer who can operate with independence, apply sound technical judgement, mentor others and collaborate effectively across Product Engineering, Architecture, Product Management, Operations and Delivery teams.


Role Accountabilities


  • Technical quality of assigned product capabilities.
  • Delivery of complex engineering work to agreed standards.
  • Identification and management of engineering risks, dependencies and technical debt.
  • Technical mentoring and support of Product Engineers.
  • Maintaining engineering documentation, automation assets and product artefacts.
  • Contributing to product reliability, supportability, security and operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities


Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Product Engineers.
  • Conduct technical reviews and quality assurance of engineering outputs.
  • Promote engineering best practice, standards and repeatable delivery methods.
  • Support technical decision making and provide recommendations on implementation approaches.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex engineering issues.


Engineering Delivery

  • Design, build, configure and enhance product capabilities within the assigned technology or service domain.
  • Deliver complex engineering work packages across the platforms, services, infrastructure, applications and technologies relevant to the assigned domain.
  • Translate architecture and product requirements into practical engineering outcomes.
  • Lead implementation activities for complex product enhancements and initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues relating to product capability, deployment and service operation.


Engineering Excellence

  • Develop and improve automation capabilities using Infrastructure as Code, scripting and DevSecOps practices.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, testing automation and release processes.
  • Improve consistency, repeatability and operational efficiency through standardisation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and improve engineering quality.


Operational Readiness

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, build standards and operational handover material.
  • Support product transition and operational acceptance activities.
  • Contribute to resilience, monitoring, observability and supportability improvements.
  • Assist with incident and problem investigations where engineering expertise is required.


Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering quality, automation and supportability.
  • Contribute ideas and feedback to product and service improvement initiatives.
  • Develop technical knowledge through training, certifications and practical experience.
  • Stay current with developments, emerging technologies and industry best practices relevant to the assigned domain.


Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Architecture, Operations and Delivery teams.
  • Clarify requirements and raise concerns where technical, operational or commercial risks exist.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, planning sessions and engineering reviews.
  • Share knowledge openly and support team learning.

Candidate Specification

We are looking for a technically strong, delivery-focused engineer with significant experience in VMware-based platforms, private cloud, Kubernetes-enabled platform services, declarative infrastructure and automation patterns. The successful candidate will work under general direction, manage assigned workstreams and technical outcomes, and seek guidance for significant design decisions where appropriate.

Essential Experience

Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • Delivering complex engineering solutions within VMware-based platforms, VCF private cloud or managed service environments.
  • Owning technical workstreams, translating requirements into engineered solutions and guiding other engineers.
  • Implementing and improving enterprise-grade platforms, services or products across virtualisation, cloud infrastructure, networking, storage, automation, Kubernetes or operational management capabilities.
  • Provisioning and configuring Kubernetes clusters, managing Linux-based container workloads, worker node pools, namespaces, storage policies, compute quotas and container network configurations.
  • Delivering declarative infrastructure through Terraform, Kubernetes YAML manifests, Custom Resource Definitions, VCF Automation templates or other Infrastructure as Code blueprints.
  • Integrating infrastructure templates, automation blueprints and deployment artefacts with version-control systems.
  • Developing automation, scripting, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices.
  • Producing technical documentation, build standards, runbooks and operational handover material.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation, vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, NSX, VMware Cloud Director, VCF Operations, VCF Automation or related VMware/Broadcom services.
  • Experience with VCF 9+ private cloud and multi-tenant service models, including tenant onboarding, provider and tenant boundaries, role-based access, resource allocation, service catalogues, self-service consumption, VPC-style networking, fleet lifecycle operations or platform governance.
  • Experience with cloud-native platform services, including Kubernetes, ingress, service mesh, registries, DNS, certificates or related platform components.
  • Experience improving operational supportability through monitoring, observability, resilience, security controls and continuous service improvement.

Technical Knowledge

Domain Technology and Platforms

  • Strong understanding of the technologies, platforms and services relevant to the VMware technology domain.
  • Understanding of infrastructure, application, networking, compute, storage, data, security or identity concepts.
  • Architecture, administration and operational support principles for enterprise-grade platforms and managed services.
  • Integration patterns and dependencies between services, platforms, operational tooling and supporting technologies.
  • Security, resilience, supportability, lifecycle management and operational management considerations.
  • VMware Cloud Foundation private cloud architecture and operating models, including management domains, workload domains, VCF Management Services, VCF Operations, VCF Automation, vSphere, vSAN, NSX, VMware Cloud Director, Virtual Private Clouds, tenant and project management, fleet lifecycle management and associated VMware/Broadcom platform services.
  • Tenant isolation, provider and tenant boundaries, delegated administration, role-based access, resource allocation, service catalogues, self-service consumption, operational control models and secure namespace boundaries.
  • Kubernetes clusters, namespaces, worker node pools, pods, replica sets, deployments, Custom Resource Definitions, storage policies, compute quotas and container network configuration.

Automation and DevSecOps

  • Infrastructure as Code using reusable templates, modules, Kubernetes manifests and configuration standards.
  • CI/CD practices for build, test, deployment, release automation and version-controlled infrastructure delivery.
  • Source control, branching, peer review and release management practices using platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.
  • Scripting, automation tooling, Terraform, VCF Automation templates, YAML manifests and blueprint customisation for repeatable engineering and operational tasks.
  • Secure delivery practices including validation, testing, policy enforcement and controlled promotion between environments.

Security and Operations

  • Identity and access management, including role-based access and delegated administration.
  • Secure configuration practices across VMware, Kubernetes, Linux-based container workloads and automation platforms.
  • Security, governance and compliance principles relevant to the assigned domain, including tenant boundaries, namespace controls, resource limits and quota enforcement.
  • Monitoring, resilience, operational controls and evidence-based assurance for private cloud and platform services.

Qualifications and Certifications

Relevant certifications are desirable but not essential. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

  • VCP-DCV, VCP-NV, VCAP-DCV Deploy or equivalent VMware platform certifications.
  • VCP-VCF Administrator, VCAP-VCF Operations, VCAP-VCF Automation desirable.
  • Service management, security, automation, networking or engineering certifications where appropriate.
  • Role-appropriate vendor, industry or professional certifications.

Equivalent practical experience may be considered in lieu of certifications.
